In the last round of 16 match in Bercy, Rafa took on big serving Jerzy Janowicz (#14). Janowicz was certainly living up to his billing as a big server – hitting 230+ kmh serves. In fact, he hit four in a row at one point to hold serve in 49 seconds. How to you respond to that? By being Rafa. He started reading the serve better, getting a racket on the ball and punching the ball back into the court, giving himself
Once again, Rafa’s scheduled for not before 8pm local time on Friday. I can’t wait for the Asian swing to be over. I need sleep! I don’t know how people in Asia deal with the time difference for the rest of the year.

A transcript of the short presser Rafa gave following his 6-1, 7-6(5) defeat of Carlos Berlocq in the 3rd round has been posted to the Shanghai Masters site.

RAFAEL NADAL: Yes, but the situation today with the humidity was not nice. When you play these crazy points with the

In his third round match at Shanghai, Rafa played #44 Carlos Berlocq. It was their third meeting with Rafa leading the head-to-head 2-0. Aggressive Rafa showed up today and he took the first set 6-1. Despite that drubbing, Berlocq wasn’t playing poorly. It’s really difficult to fault his tennis during the match. It’s just that Rafa was a cut above. The second set score was more respectable and, perhaps, more reflective of the level of play. It went to a tiebreak with Berlocq getting an early lead with two mini-breaks. He gave one back with a double fault. Rafa clawed the other back and managed to level things at 5-5. Berlocq double faulted to give Rafa match point. That’s all he needed and Rafa’s through to the next round: 6-1, 7-6(5). He’ll play Wawrinka next.
Q. In the first set you guys broke serve five times and none in the second. Talk about what you did to adjust and settle into your second serve game a little bit more.
RAFAEL NADAL: Well, it’s true that the ball and the conditions out there makes the serve not easy because
