Q. Is it more satisfying to be in the final of a Masters or to beat Federer for the first time on an indoor surface? Do you think today Federer played well, not well, you played very well?
RAFAEL NADAL: Always is the same, no? Most satisfying thing always is the tournament more than the personal victories. So for me is more important be in the final in the last tournament of the

@RafaNadalUnoffi just enjoyed her first in-person Rafa experience and has offered to share it with us.
Like most tennis fans my major ambition was to attend a big tournament and watch my idol at work, but over the years I have been unable to fulfill that goal despite numerous attempts at the Wimbledon ballot (not to mention University or work getting in the way). That was until April this year when, on a Bank Holiday Monday, I thought this is my opportunity; I need to seize it. I had

In the first semifinal of the day in London, Rafa took on #7 and long-time rival Roger Federer. Their matches have often been very up and down. Their last one in Cincy was an exciting affair. Today’s wasn’t quite that intense, but it was much more interesting than some of their blow-outs. Both players were playing pretty well, but Rafa had that extra something. He went up a break in the 9th game of the first set, but was unable to consolidate and serve it out. Despite that wobble, he broke in the next game and then served it out. There was an early break in the 2nd set and that’s all he needed. He’s through 7-5, 6-3.
This was the first time he’s beaten Federer at the WTF.

Rafa had a shortened practice session today. Shortened for two reasons: he was late; it started raining. Here’s a few pictures:

Genny summed up a few of Rafa’s comments:
Rafa in Spanish TV: Rafa’d have rated as mad to anyone who would’ve told him 4 months ago that by now he’d have won 3 M1000, 2 M500 & 1 M250— Genny SS (@genny_ss) May 19, 2013
