Rafa’s bullish on his return

Rafa's bullish on his return

…or at least that’s the word used by Iain Rogers in this Reuters article.

“Right now, this week and these first few days back, it’s a matter of taking things slowly,” Nadal said in a courtside interview after his first training session of the month.

“I think things are progressing very well,” added the 23-year-old Spaniard. “I have been working with the appropriate machines to help the tear heal as quickly as possible and also done a lot of physical work

World Cup gains support from leading players

I have to say that I’m a bit ticked Rafa likes this idea. I love Davis Cup and feel that this proposal will kill everything that’s good about it. It will also be a huge hit in the pocket book for national tennis federations. The proposal sounds more “entertainment” focused than tennis focused. I want tennis, not spectacle for spectacle’s sake. I understand and support the desire to shorten the season, but not at the expense of Davis Cup. Then again, that’s the whole problem isn’t it? What is going to give?

DC final day: report & photos

DC final day: report & photos

Had to get up early since I wasn’t sure what time the bus was today. I think the Czech lady said 10:15 (yes, I understand times better in Czech than Catalan – sad, no?), but I wasn’t 100% sure. I wasn’t in the mood to go downstairs for breakfast (I hate eating alone in public), so I called room service. I asked if the lady who picked up spoke English. She said “Moment” and then put the phone down, called someone’s name out and then said something that sounded like “puta needs someone who speaks English.” Woohoo! Just woke up

Spain gets its salad bowl

Spain gets its salad bowl

After two boring and low-key dead rubbers, Spain was declared the winners of the Davis Cup today in Barcelona. Rafa was up first and he was in super-grumpy mode – grabbing his back and making faces at missed shots. He did enough, however, to beat Jan Hajak 6-3, 6-4. Next up, Ferrer took on doubles specialist Lukas Dlouhy and won 6-4, 6-2. Spain sweeps the final winning 5-0 over the Czech Republic. The are the first repeat winners
