First day at the tournament, we are 4 of us from the VamosBrigade french forum (Dani, July62, Val and myself). We are really excited because last year we where supposed to be there but the volcano in Iceland just changed my plan and I had to stay here in Canada :( the others where able to get there by car, but Rafa changed his mind too :(

I watch Feli’s match and Marc Lopez was watching him too. No signs of Rafa yet.

Barcelona: Rafa wins his 6th Barcelona title

For a second Sunday in a row, it was Rafa and Daveeed playing for a title. (Was it just a week ago I was courtside in Monte-Carlo? Oh my.) Ferrer hadn’t beaten Rafa on clay since 2004, and Rafa was trying to become the first player to win two tournaments six times. Rafa skipped playing here last year and seemed to be itching to return to his home tournament.

Barcelona: 500th win

The last semifinal of the day in Barcelona saw Rafa take on #56 Ivan Dodig in their first ever meeting. Dodig was the giant slayer this week taking down Soderling and Raonic. But could he slay the biggest clay court giant of all time?

It didn’t start well for Dodig – it took him until the 3rd game to win a point. He won that service game and, with some help from Rafa, then went on to break in the next.
