Both Rafa and Daveeed won their singles matches in straight sets giving Spain a 2-0 lead over Denmark in the Davis Cup Group 1 Relegation Play-Off.

Rafa defeated Mikael Torpegaard 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Torpegaard is a young player who hasn’t been pro very long and, thus, has a very low ranking. He’s mainly been playing on the futures and challenger circuit. From the little bit I saw today, you couldn’t tell that from his on-court demeanor. He did not see overly nervous or overwhelmed with the situation. He played pretty well, but Rafa played better.

Daveeed defeated Frederik Nielsen 6-1, 7-5, 6-2. He was in danger of losing that second set, but managed to pull it out.

The court appears to be playing fast (9 aces for Rafa!) and the bounces are fairly low. Also, the lighting looks to be pretty dim and there were many bad line calls. So…I’ll take 2 straight set wins and be very, very happy!
