I was in Hamburg for the semis and final at the weekend. I cheered for all Raftans. Thrilled at Rafael’s victory. Sure he lost serve but his calmness and determination in crucial pressure moments was really impressive. That is the Rafael we knew existed! He was so happy and I feel that it was a milestone in his career and a return to winning ways. Once again he proved to be a crowd favourite . Vamos Rafaaaa

    thanks elizabeth
    encouraging words.
I think the intensity of the final was and will be greta form him – he is a natural born tennis player and that final threw up heaps of situations and opportunities that both challenged and delighted him. It seems strange how this sport relies so much on “flow”, concentration on the moment, the game the shot, and ability to leave th epreviou shots simply behind. Hope rafa keeps that up

Rafa’s decision to play Hamburg was unquestionably right . He played well enough to win and showed the grit and determination to grind out the victory against a confident Fognini who was looking for his third in a row against Rafa this year and all on clay . This time Rafa won Mano a Mano and provides Rafa wih confidence for the upcoming hard court season. Vamos Rafa !!
