Awww…baby. I think he’s been blubbering in the locker room.

It always amazes me how clearly he can recall all the details of the particular points and their sequence. He knows exactly what happened when it happened. That must be really useful in past match analysis.

I believe him – he’ll work even harder til he’s back to his winning ways. After the RG loss in 2009 i remember he said something like – we need to have losses to add sweetness to our victories. When he gets through this stage, will be very sweet indeed.

that detailed recall is typical of Aspergers actually

      • miri says:

It’s also typical of most players on the tour.

Hey Miri, I was gonna ask exactly that… Since I don’t follow so much of other players, I don’t recall any of them remembering so many details. But I find it amazing!!! I guess it demonstrates all of their concentration in court.

So anyone who can remember important details has Asperger’s? What a stupid thing to say. I can guess I know the reasons though and I can also guess that you would have something equally ridiculous to say if he said he didn’t know or remember what the important points were.

There are ways to disagree with someone without insulting them. Try one of those options next time.

          • sam says:

If you’re referring to the “stupid” comment I could replace it with ignorant because a diagnoses of Asperger’s based on someones recall about important aspects of their job is ignorant. Asperger’s is a life long disability but the chief symptoms are social. ie problems with social communication, interaction and imagination. Rafa does not exhibit these symptoms. The reason why I used the term “stupid” was because I suspected that it wasn’t just ignorance that was behind the comment.

I’m well aware of what Asperger’s is and how it manifests (trust me). I’m just saying there are ways to point out that someone’s information is incorrect/misguided/incomplete without also passing judgement. “Asperger’s is a life long disability but the chief symptoms are social. ie problems with social communication, interaction and imagination. Rafa does not exhibit these symptoms.” – perfect! Educating is much more effective than calling someone or their ideas stupid or ignorant.

And I have to add: this interview made me sad! I am constantly thinking that maybe he is through with tennis… but I hope he proves me wrong! I still wanna see our Rafa all happy and sure of himself on court!
