Miami: Rafa’s out

In not surprising news, it seems that Rafa has withdrawn from the Miami tournament. Here is the acceptance list that shows Rafa’s name crossed off. Seems like a wise move to me – he gained a lot of confidence in his recent tournaments. Why push the knees with another hard court tournament? Especially one with conditions that don’t suit his game as well as Indian Wells? Go home, say hello to the clay again and prepare for Monte-Carlo.

I think that’s very wise too; he has a very busy clay season coming up. So glad he’s being sensible over hard court tournaments, though with his current form, I bet he’d love secretly to be playing.

Finally someone with the same view! I told it also about Indian Wells

If it’s correct, it is a wise decision by Rafa!

I live in South Florida and look forward to attending the tournament in Miami every year. Last year I wasted my money buying a semifinals ticket only to see him withdraw. I’ve always been a fan of Nadal, but have lost a lot of the respect I had for him the last couple of years. These tournaments and communities rely on big names to generate revenues. Nadal, you are no longer the bull, you have become a COWard. I’m enjoying watching Del Potro kick your itchy butt.

If you buy a tennis ticket just to see one player, you are gambling with your money just like if you were playing slots in Vegas. You buy tennis tickets to watch tennis.

I know it’s disappointing, but Rafa is doing what is best for him and his career…so he can be around to play longer in front of more fans.

And that’s that, people. Don’t feed the troll any more than I just did.

Rafa would be the last player on the tour who is not a coward, and with your above post anyone can easily understand what kind if a Rafa fan you are !! I guess Rafa’s knees and an obvious decision of skipping Miami is more important than your 100 dollars. If this season you were expecting Rafa to play Miami, that explains how much you know about the ATP schedule, tennis and Rafa.

Many congratulations to Rafa. How good is he?. he will never ever give in. I’m so glad he’s giving Miami a miss. Congrats also to Juan Martin, he played fantastic tennis. I am a very happy bunny.

I was expecting this so not a surprise. As Rafa did say in a presser that he would go to MC after IW. I think that he has made a wise choice. Of course I would like him to play but I realise that he must make these tough decisions now to prolong his career.

Rafa has played alot of tennis lately and deserves a rest anyway. It will be nice for him to get back to his family and friends in Mallorca and have some fun. Rafa has a busy clay court season to rest up for. And per usual, I want Rafa to don the clay sweep!. The clay season belongs to him! I can’t wait for MC!.

    Very wise decision!

  8. Nhi says:

I agree with you all, that he should rest till the Monte Carlo and the whole clay season will come very soon. Once again, congratulations on his victory in IW :D

Huge Rafa fan since beating Roger (all respect for him of course)in French semis 2005 . I realize how someone less gifted for Tennis than The Roger Federer would do ANYTHING to win. Don t let this wise move of not playing Miami fool you. He wants that Masters win badly and hopefully will win it in the next couple of years to come. But at this point beating everyone in Europe clay will get him closer to the goal of number 1 and get Novak.

Cheers Rafa Indian Wells belongs to you. Good luck in Monte Carlo , go get them.

Miami you will have to wait a bit more, but be patient, Rafa will take a bite of that trophy too.
