This. Ideally he skips IW or miami. I prefer he skip IW, miami is a little slower and the ball is also easier to control there.

After that monte carlo, then barcelona. Spain should then boycott the madrid open if nadal enters this year. Enter Rome and then RG. Vamos. :)

Looked really good vs. Mayer I thought. Nadal’s been popping the serve in all of these matches. Nice to see since he rarely does that on clay.

Rafa prefers the conditions of IW to Miami. He plays much better and more confidently in IW. Miami is humid which doesn’t do good things to his shots. Plus, he like Ellison (and the near-by golf courses). If he skips either of them, my bet would be on Miami.

On average he has done better at IW, but in 6 out of the 9 years he has done just as well or better at miami as IW. Also even though he’s only had relatively easy matches on hard courts starting around 2009 (imo), he’s always gone relatively deep at IW, which put him at a slight disadvantage heading into miami immediately after IW. In 2005 he already made the Final in miami, possibly because he didn’t play IW that year.

I also like the above schedule because it puts him in a nice rhythm of playing and resting with no long layoffs. If he played IW and skipped miami, that’s about 25 days in between match play.

In anycase hopefully he drops madrid (or rome) and decompresses his CC schedule, but in interviews he still speaks like his injury last year came out of the blue, so I am not getting my hopes up.
