VIP – Rafael Nadal. Impressive surroundings and investment for him and his family. Looking good, Rafa.

The article below says that, not surprisingly, Rafa is not the sole owner of the two hotels, but rather an investor along with two other Spanish businesses.

He invested in the hotels several years ago when they were flagged under the Wyndham name. I remember when he visited a few years ago when his wisdom teeth flared up. The hotels were in dire need of remodeling (check Tripadvisor). When Team Rafa signed with AMResorts back in October, the new franchisee (Secrets) required upgrades to meet its standards. Yesterday was a symbolic reflagging of the hotel, which actually finished renovations and changed names a couple of months ago. (The other hotel will change names in April.)

So the hotel project has gone on for months – it’s just that Rafa’s being in Mexico allowed him to visit the property and do some publicity for it, while also doing various interviews, a photo shoot and such.

I love the footage in the ESPN Deportes interivew (at about 1:20) of the team’s reaction to Rafa’s win the Sao Paolo final. I don’t think that was shown in the Tennis Channel telecast. So moving to see Rafa’s dad get so emotional. (I love that Sebastian is always the one that cries :))…On the knee thing, I asked this question in a comment last week but didn’t see responses and am interested in other opinions. The knee thing is worrying me — although Rafa doesn’t seem worried. Isn’t it concerning that seven months of rest and treatment didn’t fix an injury for a 26 year old top athlete in superb condition? Does it raise questions about whether treatment was the right way to go. This is not a criticsm – just a question.

    • Ramara says:

      Just from what I’ve read:

Rafa has stated, often, that he still has knee pain which varies in intensity from day to day. He said his doctors have told him the pain should ease up by the end of Feb. And yes, it affected his movement and play, especially on the bad days. He does not know how he’ll feel after (or during) Acapulco and has no plans as yet after the exho in NY.

Since I do not have a degree in sports medicine I’m not gonna second guess his treatment.

I did read a mangle of one of his interviews, the one in which he said beating the top 4 was “inconceivable”. He also said that a couple of weeks ago making the final in Chile and winning in Brazil was inconceivable.

In short, there’s a lot more questions than answers.

    • Elfie says:

Could you or someone let me have the link for the ESPN Deportes interview with the team’s reaction to Rafa’s win the Sao Paolo final? I must have somehow missed it! Thanks!

    • Elfie says:

Sorry – just saw it in TODAY’s Lint – just being silly! Duhh!

  3. Sharon/London says:

Yes I saw the emotional reaction of Rafa’s father after the win in São Paulo to. I think Rafa’s pains and struggles over the last few months were written all over his face. A beautiful moment , very touching and i felt it.

Rafa is wearing Polo? Lovely pics and did love the footage of Papi with tears of happiness for his boy.
