RafaLint: September 6th
Man, for an “off” time for Rafa, a lot of lint gathered while I was busy being a tourist in NYC!
I think he’d manage to encourage me.

I thought it was interesting to note Federer’s Pre-US Open comments this year, where he was quoted as saying that “in the past couple of years, i’m not certain that winning the Open was necessarily on my racket. This year, i think it’ll take some special tennis from someone to take it off my racket.”
Not quoting him verbatim, but that’s pretty close.
I thought that was interesting that he’d say that, being that in the last two US Opens (2010 and 2011), he two match points against Nole…and lost. Maybe Fed had amnesia?
Or maybe he was thinking, more accurately, that this year’s US Open was more on his racket since Rafa wasn’t there. I could see that angle a bit more, since Rafa dominates him. But if that were the case, what happened against Berdych?
I guess Federer never learned the art of poor-mouthing?
Rooting like hell for Andy and Daveeeed!
I have become quite fond of Delpo, and sorry he lost yesterday ! Watching the Novak chest pumping wide eye roar, just doesn’t work for me…and Daveed is SUCH a beast !!! What a fighter !!! I am inspired watching him — VAMOS DAVEED !!!!
Yes the Novak chest pumping is back unfortunately which I find do arrogant but lets face it he hasn’t had much to roar about this year has he? As for Roger, Mr Smugly so full of himself , thought with Rafa absent would pave the way for him but Berdych had the “special tennis” to take off Rogers racket i guess. I notice yet again in his post match interview he didnt give any credit to Berdych, it was all about him.
In Rafa’s absence I wish all the best to David,Andy and Tomas and hope either of these guys lift the USO trophy.
Hate the chest thumping and a few other things. Love your name “Mr Smugly” for Roger! His self aggrandizing never ceases to amaze me. I can’t believe some of the things that he says in pressers! I really believe that he thought that Rafa not playing would give him a great chance to win. I was soooo happy when Tomas beat him–he is a little crazy, too, you know!! In any case Andy or Ferru winning would be a dream, they both deserve it so much. David is so under rated for being #5. ANYBODY but Nole—even Tomas!!!!
The article about Rafa fulfilling the wish of the little girl, through the Make-A-Wish foundation, is just the sweetest thing. It sounds like it took place during the Roland Garros tournament….for him to take the time out to do this….what an absolute sweetheart he is.
He is our Sweetheart, isn’t he? Unique man, one of a kind :-) Hope he takes as long as he needs to be healthy.
Congratulations to Andy Murray, to all of England, the UK, Scotland…and to Heath as well. Heath, though u likely blush for being congratulated, u help make Nadal News a great place to visit, and visit often. Have a Guinness for me as well!
Congrats to Novak Djokovic as well. Though I admit I root against him, as he’s stomped our hearts out a lot lately, it’s undeniable that that cat has BIG FRIGGIN BALLS, baby.
My only balm is I called it a month ago, picking Andy to win.
Rafa, please get well soon. It isn’t the same, or even close without u. Missing u terribly in the states, and all over the world.
How fun would it be to be in Great Britain tonite??? Heath, can u honor us all w a report on the events that unfold?
What an incredible match. Good nite to all
Great match! I bet Rafa is so happy for Murray. That was the most excited I’ve been since Rafa had to leave us. Congrats to Murray, and Novak too. What do you think, Heath?? Celebrate!!
Without taking away from Andy the due congrats, and also Nole for an incredible match, among a mixture of sentiments, the most definite one I feel right now is the void to be filled only with the return of Rafa. I hope Andy’s win inspires Rafa, rekindles his desire to win, and helps him fall in love with his game all over again.
Come back healthy and fit, Rafa.
Well at last Murray did it.. I stayed up til 3am to watch the match and was so happy for Andy. A great match and feel proud to be British. I did feel with the injury lay off for Rafa and the early exit for Roger, Andy would only have to beat 1 of the top guys and not 2 he needed to make the most of the opportunity so it was now or probably never. Nole taking a MTO for a leg massage when Andy was gonna serve for he match should not have been allowed but that is Novak for you. He did the exact same thing last year for his back against Rafa in the final.
I know Rafa will be so pleased for Andy.
Need Rafa back, missing him like mad and tennis needs the spark, buzz whatever you want to a call it that he brings when he walks on to the court. It starts for me when the camera’s are behind the scenes and Rafa is jumping up and down, adjusting his socks with racket in hand and you can here the noise of the crowd waiting to hear his name . I can’t wait.
