RafaLint: August 27th

I’m heading to NY for a week starting Wednesday. So the infrequent updates could get even more less frequent. Don’t forget that Inés and genny_ss are posting more frequent updates to Facebook.

  • This BBC program includes some comments from Benito in regards to Rafa – around minute 27. (If that link doesn’t work for some reason, here’s a pirated version.)
  • For those who couldn’t see it on Facebook, Rafa’s virtual appearance at the Champions Drink Responsible NYC event is now on YouTube.

Hopefully, Rafa will play in China at 100% conditions. Miss His Tennis a lots.

Thanks for the links as usual.

Rafa has been a force to be reckoned with on all surfaces since 2008, but he still plays his cards like it’s 2005-2007. He still tries to maximize all the points he can during the packed clay court season, which imo increases his chances of not being fit in the latter part of the year.

I read recently that nadal plans to reduce the no. of hard court tournaments. I have an alternative suggestion, reduce the no. of clay court tournaments that he plays during April and May. Go to max. 4 maybe even 3 CC tournaments in those 2 months, sacrifice some sure clay court points, lower your chances of winning RG slightly but increase your chances of competing in all the big tournaments after RG in good health. Space out your schedule and don’t put all your eggs in the clay court basket. That just hasn’t been necessary for a while.

Unfortunately imo his and toni’s psychology (very risk averse) dictates their strategy. I hope in future seasons they figure out a way to get past this thinking, truly believe in Rafa’s chances in picking up points on all surfaces and roll the dice.

Very disappointed in him not playing US open. Looking forward to his return. Cheers.

All I’m going to say is Rafa will not give up on the European clay season for more hard court play, which is worse for his knees and body in general. I can see him play more clay in South America though …

I like the shirt the lady is wearing saying Get Well Soon Rafa.
It is what we all wish. Love the picture with his mom, sis,& Maria, he is such a family guy. Will be a wonderful father one day. Vamos,Rafa!

is there a possibility that Rafa would play at CHINA OPEN?

Awfully quiet around here of late.

I’m still undecided as to whether its a good thing or a bad thing to watch US Open. I watched some last night, and, well…

It’s kinda like a New Years Resolution to eat healthy all the time that is ready to go awry; you know him sitting out and rehabbing is the right thing, the healthy thing, the smart thing long term, but man i need a Rafa fix kinda like i need some milk chocolate.

I’d trade Rafa my own knees at this point.

Wait, don’t do that, he doesn’t need my knees, either!

I know what you mean. I’ve watched some matches, and enjoyed them, but the entire event feels “flat” as one journalist described it without Rafa. His presence is powerful and missed. I need a Rafa fix too…meanwhile, stocking up on dark chocolate, red wine, and French Roast coffee to sustain me – all in moderation of course:)But, Rafa will be back healthy and fit and what fun it will be to cheer him onto the court again!!

Agreed, it’s very quiet in Rafa-land. What strikes me the most is the sheer number of articles that talk about Rafa NOT being at the USO. I’ve watched some of the matches and lost count of the number of times he has been mentioned by the commies too. Everyone sure is missing Rafa a great deal.

There’s speculation that he might play in the Davis Cup semi-finals. Personally, I just can’t see it. He’s so match rusty, even if he were 100% fit, and plus he would be playing for his country, not just for himself, so I think he would adopt the same line of thinking as in The Olympics, ie, to let stronger fitter players take his place to represent Spain. Of course, no-one would be happier than me to see him return, but I don’t think it will be in Davis Cup.
