I really was going to go to bed early tonight. Well, I guess 1am is early…just a different kind of early. Owe you guys some lint…

Articles:

Video/Audio:

Photos:

  • Rafa’s photo from the Olympics tennis book. I’ve seen some people were disappointed by this, and while it’s not the most flattering photo of him, I think it sums him up well: looking blissed while being surrounded by happy family/water moments/memories.
  • Dutchgirl’s photos from Wimbledon.

Rafa does social media:

  • Rafa posted a photo of his pool-side recovery from having his wisdom teeth removed.

Contest:
Starting on July 7th, there will be a contest to win copies of the Olympics Tennis book: info.

Random:

  • Towel police! – with a wonderfully mundane photo caption…so mundane and silly that I adore it. “Rafael Nadal used a towel last week at Wimbledon.” Well, thanks for letting us know,

Oh,Thanks a lot! It’s working now :)He’s quite funny. And Rafa asked how much he scored?Heh!but andy beat him by 1/2 a point:D

        • Izzie says:

Its hilarious -or pathetic-I can’t decide which – how competitive those 2 guys are over EVERYTHING.

But I think Rafa and Andy also connect very much on the same high mental level, have the same srt of dry sense of humor, and that’s why they are also such good friends.

  2. Izzie says:

I guess I am in the minority here, but I ADORE Rafa’s Olympic photo – it is absolutely completely sublime.

Anyway, thank you Miri for finding this photo and in general for the incredible job you do in maintaining this site.

  3. Casual Observer says:

Off topic a bit but just noticed that Federer beat Djokovic with the roof closed. Again, the Wimbledon officials decided to keep the roof closed at the start and during the whole match despite improving weather during the match. There was no reason to close the roof during the Nadal/Rosol match and here today there was no reason not to open the roof during the match. I think perhaps they learned something from the Nadal disaster or part of me just thinks they wanted Fed back in the final. If the roof goes open today, I think changes the dynamic of the match and Djokovic probably comes back to win b/c Federer was in such a rhythm the first two sets. After the last match Federer said when the roof is closed the court plays quicker. No doubt about this. The part I hate is the fact that Wimbledon can decided at a moments notice what to do or not do on the roof and the players have no control over it. I still think the roof is what did Rafa in and not Rosol. IMO, Rosol played the best match of the tournament and would have beaten anyone that day in the fifth set UNDER A CLOSED ROOF. If the roof stays open, I think we would have seen another Nadal/Djokovic final, which is probably what the powers that be didn’t want at Wimbledon.

    • WoD says:

Much as the roof closing clearly affected the outcome of the fifth set, we should give Rosol credit for stretching the match that far in the first place. As for not opening the roof in the middle of Fed-Djokovic match, I understand they have a rule that once the roof is closed, it remains closed for the duration of the match, no matter what the weather does. The rule is obviously so that matches only get interrupted once for closing the roof. It’s not the perfect solution, maybe, but seems to me it’s the most fair to all concerned.

    • Cristina says:

What is ridiculous here is the time that it takes to close the roof. The roof in Halle takes like two minutes to close. This is a grand slam, and this is the best thy can do?.

  4. Julie says:

Hope the roof is open Sunday…would be great to see Andy win!

    • Sharon/London says:

Yes the closed roof was most definitely in Federer’s favour, it then becomes an indoor court which Federer likes and as soon as I saw this I had a feeling there was gonna be an upset. THEN amazingly they opened the roof for Tsonga/Murray match, can you believe it? But there wasn’t any rain there all day I believe!

I think this year on several occassions Wimbleon have got it wrong.

How smug was Fed in his post match interview? Just loves himself.

Come on Andy , you can do it!

  5. Scooter says:

The part about the roof for Rafa’s match-it took them 46 minutes or something like that to get it set, and most recently when others were playing it was 14 minutes. Honestly. What’s up with that ?
Fed serving was on fire today, but other than that, not particularly impressed. It didn’t look to me like Novak was playing his best at all. Murray more focussed that’s for sure…How do you think Rafa would have done in the midst of all of this ? I so hope he is able to relax and enjoy this time with his family. Can’t wait for the Olympics, and love the picture. Will will be able to see some of the other tennis player pictures ? Would love to see Daveed’s…
