Wonderful honor for him, 2nd time. He loves the Olympic experience and carrying his country’s flag just adds to the emotion of the time.

    • Rafaella says:

I think it’s only his first time to carry the flag at the Olympics. In 2008, when he won, he wasn’t the flag bearer for Spain. :)

  2. L says:

Absolutly lovely! He looks well rested and so quietly happy like he just wants to break out in a big smile:) Hopefully this will serve as great motivation for wimbledon, here’s hoping he gets in enough prep before Tuesday.

  3. JK says:

This is great news but I am not one bit surprised and was fully expecting this. He is such a true example of being successful yet humble and respectful. Being grounded after all the success. He is a true role model and any country would be proud to have him do the honor.
    Vamos.

  4. Fan M says:

    Congrats Rafa!
Miri: I am kind lost on this new cell phone version. I kind like the old computer format better. Just a thought. Thanks.

Just scroll all the way down to the bottom and click on the “On” button next to where it says “Mobile Theme” to toggle it off.

This is wonderful news. He is a great sportsman, a great ambassador for tennis and his country and he is an honorable and humble man.

He was so proud to play for Spain at the last Olympics and I hope to see him draped in the Spanish flag as the champion at Wimbledon and the Olympics.

    • Ruthie says:

I could not have put it better myself micamica – let’s hope that this will come to pass. It could not happen to a nicer human being.

      • Karen says:

If I only get to see Rafa’s smile at ‘ The Opening Ceremony’ it will be worth watching. I really can’t wait. Rafa truly deserves this honor & we know it’s something he’ll treasure forever. Bless his little cotton socks!!

    • Tina says:

Totally agree with you micamica, nicely put, and I have hoped for this to happen, as he so deserves it!

Rafa looks so genuinely thrilled, like a kid who can barely contain himself. It’s wonderful to see.

  7. Rafaella says:

Good for Spain! Imagine the fighting spirit Rafa would bring to their Olympic team. He’s a great inspiration! Viva Espana! :)

  8. Nils says:

He looks sooo happy and excited!!Couldn’t understand a word of the video but could just see that big smile on Rafa’s face. All I can say is..You deserve this like no one else. Congrats. Here’s hoping you bring glory to your country.VAMOS!:)

    • Reva says:

@ Nils and Aini….when you’re watching the video, if you click on “cc” on the right hand side, the first of the 5 buttons, that will put on subtitles in english (you may be able to change the language). Hope that helps!! LOVE the big smiles at the end :D

  9. Aini says:

i don’t understand a word Rafa said 9despite learning spanish in 2009!) ..haha..but Soooo happy that he got the honour to be flag bearer.. he is one of the best role models in sports. Hope this will spur him on to do his BEST at Wimbledon and the Olympics! VAMOS!:o)
