Site update – attn mobile users

Hello everybody guys!

I’ve updated the site software and added a plugin that’s supposed to make the site more mobile friendly. There’s a problem with it, though: it won’t show custom pages like the calendar and results page. For you mobile users – is that okay? I can switch to see the full version in the footer of the page… I’m going to look into getting those custom pages to work, but might not be able to on the free version of the plugin.

I’m also very worried this plugin won’t work with the caching system. So, if you are on the mobile site, but are seeing “full” pages or vice-versa, please leave a comment to let me know.

Thanks!

    Miri
The site works great on my iPhone
Thanks so much for your continuous efforts to maintain this site

  2. Sia says:

Looks gorgeous on my phone :)

To get it to work on phones, I had to turn off caching for mobile devices. We’ll see how this affects my server performance.

Eventually, when I have the time (ha!), I want to completely redesign and revamp the site so that it automatically displays well on mobile and desktop devices without resorting to a plugin. It’s all about finding the time….

miri, if we turn off mobile theme we can still access the calender and results pages and then just turn it back on for a more mobile experience.

I can only see the full page on my Nokia Lumia 800!
    No mobileversion for me

I wonder what that user agent shows up as. Right now, it only switches for the following user agents.

      Android, CUPCAKE, Googlebot-Mobile, bada, blackberry 9800, blackberry9500, blackberry9520, blackberry9530, blackberry9550, dream, iPhone, iPod, incognito, s8000, webOS, webmate

I guess I could try adding “nokia” in there and see what happens. Oh wait, is that a Windows phone? It’s not officially supported by the plug-in. :(

have not tried the NON-MOBILE version.

Hi miri! In the mobile version I’m getting some advertising. Is that normal? It doesn’t really bother me, but wanted to know if I’m the only one. Thanks!

    • miri says:

Yep – just like the on the regular site. Sorry, but I have to attempt to pay the bills. I get so little from them, perhaps I should just take them down…

      • Eliana says:

No that’s fine! I wanted to know because the advertising seemed kinda random and thought my phone has gone crazy again :) Everything works perfect.

        • miri says:

Yeah, sadly, I don’t really have any control over what shows. That’s partially why I went with a text-only option. Don’t want nasty images or those flash pop-ups. They earn more money but are way too darn annoying.

    Miri,

The mobile format works great. You’re awesome! Thank you. :)

I’m afraid I need tech help – On a Blackberry am I supposed to automatically get the mobile version when I go to the site, or is there a separate web address?

    • miri says:

What Blackberry do you use? It currently switches automatically for the following user agents:

      Android, CUPCAKE, Googlebot-Mobile, bada, blackberry 9800, blackberry9500, blackberry9520, blackberry9530, blackberry9550, dream, iPhone, iPod, incognito, s8000, webOS, webmate

I got an iPad from bf as an early birthday present……. But thats having a realy hard time whit the site…. Am i doping something wrong? Its off course not a problem, i can use annoteer computer too!

  14. An says:

Ill try to describe it, hope you understand what i mean… It cuts off a part on the right side off the screen ( screen is not filled out complete and still it inst showing everything) and random parts of text cant be read because it shows very small pics in the background. In the “home” screen i see little squares in the background.

    • miri says:

Well then, I’m really glad I have an Android. Sadly, there’s not a lot of ways for me to trouble shoot this as I don’t have access to an iPad. I could try turning on the mobile version for iPads. Is yours a new one with the Retina displays?

Any other iPad users having the problem?

      • An says:

Yes, Its a new one, with Retina display indeed. And the realy weird thing is that Its getting better…. Home screen is almost looking normal now…. Only the little pics as background for something off the text still there…

But dont bother Miri, as i said Its no problem! I’ll use another computer for NN

  15. An says:

I know you are doing what you can and i just wanted to let you know because i know you want perfection… :)
I’m confident that the solution finds you one of these days but don’t spend time looking for it, you are doing more then enough for us!
