Rafa and Djokovic’s Roland Garros final will continue tomorrow. Play for today is officially suspended due to the weather. They will be back tomorrow at 1pm local time. The even worse news is that the weather forecast for tomorrow doesn’t look good. At all.
Current score: 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 1-2 – Rafa down a break in the 4th.

If fans wish to blame anyone, they should focus on the French Open managers, who, from what I read, had leeway to start earlier and refused. They knew very well the weather trend and percentages and the play history of these two, but chose to start late in the day anyway.
I cannot imagine that the TV sponsors are happy with the current situation; by switching today’s broadcast from NBC to its sports affiliate removes 35 MILLION viewers here. Not to mention the ticketholders.
According to news reports, Rafa didn’t want to leave for the first break, and asked for the second break in play several games before play was finally suspended. He wasn’t so much angry at the final suspension as at its timing, and I don’t blame him.
The chair ump said that Djokovich had also complained of the conditions before the end, specifically about the slipperiness, and he did come close to tumbling more than once.
It’s a bloody mess all around, hard on the heels of the dreadful women’s final in Rome, the confusion over the men’s final in Rome, and the Madrid fiasco.
I’d settle for a private, covered clay court in Rome with only the principals, the ump and ballboys, etc., and cameras, no crowd at all. At least it would then be a clean game.
