I really love you website miri! And your tweets! Thank you so much for these!!!
Rafa was fantastic today, although he was flying by the seat of his pants for most of the match, but nice to see him getting some of the luck for a change! Nole’s frustration was priceless, as was Rafa’s complete determination
Wow, what a match! I’m glad I was at work and couldn’t watch it live. Don’t think I could have coped during many points of the match! Vamos Rafa!! On to RG!!
Great quality videos! thanks Rafapedia and thanks Miri for posting.
Thank you Miri you are the best! And well, thanks to you Rafapedia person too. Now can someone tell me why Rafa’s family is cracking up during his trophy speech? It appears his Italian is at least as fluent as his English, but I don’t speak Italian. Help…someone! Thanks.
was he speaking italian during the trophy ceremony?
I thought it was spanish! but what do i know??
Yes, he was speaking passable Italian. Couldn’t tell you why his family found it so funny though!
Hard to make out wat he’s saying above the Spanish commentary in the clip posted above, but he thanks his Mum and thats seems to make her laugh.
Oh, I’ve got it, he uses the French word for mother (mere), not the Italian, that’s why she laughs!
Yes, Rafa was speaking Italian (Djokovic, too).
It was your usual classic “thank you” speech, but actually much more polished and eloquent than his English versions of the same (his turn of phrase when thanking his team and family was very nice, for example).
His Italian was rather fluid, but from time to time he got stuck and inserted a Spanish word instead – most probably that’s why his family was laughing.
Thanks for the explanation, Robert! Not that I could tell anyway but the sound wasn’t very good with my telecast & the commies kept talking over him. When I saw the three Spanish flag waving ladies giggling I thought they must be laughing at his Italian too, in a good way.
Now I wish I spoke Italian too so I could understand how funny it was XD
Thanks Robert! Rafa is ever so entertaining…I’m impressed he can speak multiple languages. It is very hard to do as I found out while traveling last week in Barcelona, then France, Germany etc.
OMG! It hadn’t sunk in that Rafa’s won MC, Barcelona and Rome w/o losing a set!! An amazing achievement.
Happy for the win! He played better against berdie, he did not serve as well and made more unforced errors than when he met Berdych. But he kept fighting and played with colm taking his opportunities like winning the drop shot to get the first set. He toughed it out like he used to before 2011. So good indications. If he can raise his game a bit he is sure to win in Paris; if not he has the fight back so may win any way. I look forward to him biting the trophy in RG and more complaints about magic potions.!!
Vamos Rafael
There was something very off about Novak’s mentality in this match. His body language was subdued and sluggish from the very beginning. Not sure what was on his mind that made him look and play so out of sorts. Perhaps the pressure of fulfilling people’s anticipation of the brilliance of a No.1 player.
Rafa looked exactly the opposite. His first serve gave me a headache when I was watching the replay, but his colm and focus never abandoned him. Nerves of steel—bring them to Roland Garros, and your best game too, Rafa!
I think its Rafa vintage 2012 that is causing Novak some serious consternation! No way Rafa was at his best in all of 2011 but this year his stamina and joy in playing look to be back. I think that will put most players off – Vamos Rafa!
Nice videos from RAFApedia and thanks to Miri for posting them here.
Good win for Rafa but I think he played at a higher level against Berdych with HIGHER serve percentages! I hope he has time to up-the-ante at the French Open! But his fighting spirit and determination is truly INSPIRING! :o)
That naughty smile at 5-4 40-30 in the first set was just PRICELESS!!!
I agree. Thanks for pointing it out (1:03:05). Sweat came unstoppably down his nose which amused Rafa. He smiled in the same way as when he was reacting to the loud thunder in Monto Carlo—”Wow. What to do? I give up.”
I agree about the “naughty” smile at 5-4 40-30. I did a video of it so I can watch it on my iPhone.
