Anyone else breathing a sigh of relief that Raonic is out and RAfa faces Mayer. Ok can’t get complacent as Mayer has a h2h over RAfa! he won in Shanghai last year – RAfa’s least least favourite court. Isn’t it hard fast indoor court. This is the soft supple lovely red/orange clay under Rafa’s feet. Oh alleluya! Heard Fed may skip Rome. Now I wonder why that is??? – not liking the slow orange clay courts. Any fool for him – hope he comes up short at FO with lack of practice on proper clay courts.

Anyway me now liking the draw. Just thought I mention Raonic hit 21 aces past Fed at Madrid and 8 against Mayer in Rome. Doesn’t that tell you the the Madrid is a fast hard court no? Anyway with Berdy in Rafa’s court I am not too worried. I don’t think he will be able to serve those bullet serves and Rafa will retrieve everything and make Berdy run, run and more running. I am liking the feel of this and the clay very much amigos.

is it true Fed is skipping Rome? why would he do that when he just secured No.2? a bit strange..oh well..not that i care much..haha..

any more news on Fed playing Rome or not? In a brief interview i heard him say he was tired and exhausted and he held his hip after an awkward move in the 1st set and he was gonna see how he felt after a few days rest. This is what i have said about Fed before, he is getting older and he will find it harder to go deep into tournaments week after week, the body feels it more no matter how fit you are. I dont think Fed will go out early in Rome so if Rafa gets to the finals he will be back to no2, if im correct.

Fed will not stay no 2 for long unless he plays more smaller tourneys im sure of that or only if Rafa has really dire results for the rest of the season so im not to worried.

        • Sharon/London says:

sorry, meant Fed will not go far in Rome and will go out early. Doh!

        • Ch F says:

He probably feels the ill effects of the Madrid court as well. He did not particularly complain about it but he did slip a number of times, as did everybody regardless of the result achieved.

No disrespect to Raonic, who is going to be a real threat over coming years, but I’m never that worried about big servers against Rafa when it comes to “real tennis” on REAL clay! Will be interested to see how he plays against Mayer. Hopefully better than their last match up!

  5. sunset says:

Rafa looks grumpier in practice this time than after Barcelona, and understandably so. The pressure is high, with him losing in Madrid and everyone anticipating a win from him in Rome. Hope he can handle it well and bring his best game to the court.

  6. Nils says:

Rafa raising his eyebrow. Gorgeous!Love it totally.
