DC: Spain 4; Austria 1

Once gain, Spain is dominating a DC tie. At the end of their first day against Austria, Spain leads 2-0 having won both their rubbers in straight sets – only losing 13 games in 6 sets. Can they wrap up the tie tomorrow?

Day 1

Almagro defeated Melzer 6-2, 6-2, 6-4
Ferrer defeated Haider-Maurer 6-1, 6-3, 6-1

Day 2

Oops, they couldn’t quite get things done today. Marc!/Marcel lost their match – from all accounts it was a pretty tight match, though. Let’s see what tomorrow will bring.

Granollers/M Lopez lost to Marach/Peya: 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-7(12)

Day 3

And they did it! Daveeeed stomped all over Melzer to seal the deal. Since the USA defeated France today, the Spain/USA semifinal will be played in Spain, September 14th-16th.

Ferrer defeated Melzer: 7-5, 6-3, 6-3
Almago defeated Peya: 7-5, 7-5

      Rafa had to rest this week following a treatment for his knee.

      Grats to La Armada! Ferru def Melzer today in 3 sets so Spain is through to the semifinal. They will play the USA in Spain.
