RafaLint: April 1st
No April Fool’s joke from me…just a wee bit of lint. But the ATP did play a joke…and I have no idea how Andy and Tipsy kept a straight face during it.
Articles:
- Nadal visitará al doctor Mikel Sánchez en Vitoria – via diariodemallorca.es – thanks, genny_ss. From the mangle, it seems that Rafa’s been playing with sore knees for 9 months. (Oops. It’s been pointed out to me in the comments that the 9 months quote was related to the 2009 Wimbledon withdrawal. I need to work on my reading compression skills.)
- Rafa Nadal expone 6.000 puntos del ranking mundial entre Montecarlo y Wimbledon – by Ángel Rigueira (mangle)
- On a happier note, Marc López: “Sería un sueño jugar los Juegos Olímpicos” – an interview with Marc! (mangle)
Videos:
- Interview with Toni in Spanish.

- Need a mood-lifter? Nida’s posted her photos from the last day of the 2011 Davis Cup final.
- I like this photo because it hasn’t been Photoshopped to death. They have somewhat human looking skin! I’m too lazy to look and see if it was in the original set of photos released. Besides, someone sent me the link and posting it helps flesh (no pun intended) out a lint post. There’s a few more in the gallery – click around.
- Rafa’s 2008 Olympics medal

My initial understanding was that the “I’ve playing with sore knees for 9 months” referred to the withdrawal from Wimbledon in 2009 (*sobs). Anyone who can read the original can clarify this?
That’s how I understood it too.
Oh cool, thanks.
I should get out of bed and edit out my alarmist mis-reading … but the bed is so comfy ….
Funny joke! Everyone acted so cool in it, which makes it double funny.
I thought the “nine month” quote was about the 2009 Wimbledon withdrawal. The mangle was not very easy to read, so can’t be 100% sure.
When Rafa said he’d been playing with sore knees for 9 months he was still Number 1, so that quote was taken from 2009. Really, really hope Doctor Sanchez gets him back playing in time for MC as that’s the real start of Rafa Tennis for me. Didn’t he have the same treatment 2 years ago between MC & Rome after withdrawing from Barcelona Open then went on that amazing run winning all the Clay Masters, FO & Wimbly? I’m hoping for more of the same but realise he’s 2 years older & the opponents have improved.
Nida just watched the slide show of your photos … so great to relive the whole DC experience. Wonderful photos. Thanks :)
Thanks Sia, I am glad you enjoyed them. I love reliving that moment :)
I’m a little worried about this knee issue with only 2 weeks before MC. He looked 2 b in so much pain during the Tsonga match. If Rafa had 2 skip MC he’d b crushed not to mention the ranking:(
worried too..*unjinx unjinx*
Same here.
Did I understand correctly that Rafa has 6000 points to defend in the next two months?
Nadalnews.com got a mention in this article..COOL! :o)

That is really cool! Not the first time it’s been mentioned in the media if my memory serves me right, but still way cool!
Yes – I linked to that quite a while ago. :)
Just to clarify , yes, all those quotes in the knee article are from 2009. Looks like they needed filler for the article!
I came across the reel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8kJoT8K5fU&feature=related. Reminded me of how Rafa is capable of playing…
Great clip, once one gets past the first few moments of sentimentality. Some marvelous shots included in there. Nostalgic. Hopefully, there will be more of these to come.
Sheer joy! What a great tribute to Rafa’s magic, everything working nearly to perfection. Let’s hope his body will allow him to recover that level of play for 2012!
I’m so proud of him to see Rafa’s gold medal. Still in awe of his achievements.
You mean Rafa’s Olympic gold medal is in the Wimbledon museum and not in his home? :(
