Marc is in Miami but he’s playing with Feli Lopez. Rafa will probably play doubles at the Olympics with Granoller so they’re looking for a chance to get some practice before then.
I’m sure if Rafa had his druthers he’d want to play with Marc but unfortunately Marc won’t be going to the Olympics as Spain is so strong they have too many high ranked players.
I want Rafa to do well as always but I’m not as excited about this doubles tournament. It’s always a treat to cheer for Team Cuteness and this just doesn’t quite measure up.
Also Marc turns out to be very good at doubles! Isner and sam tried to attack the “weaker” player in indian wells but it did not work. Marc is not a make weight and knows his stuff. Rafa is probably more likely to win a medal with marc. So Spain is unlucky if they cannot field this duo.
What a shame Marc is not playing with Rafa at Miami or the Olympics, they are a great winning partnership. I thought Marc was absolutely awesome in the doubles in IW, like a little whippet around the court. Many thanks to Miri for posting it here. Be interesting to see which pairing (Feli/Marc, Rafa/Marcel)come out top.
Does anyone know if there will be any livestream coverage of the doubles matches? Also how many players can Spain send the Olympics? I’m actually surprised that it is not a Rafa/Feli team, they have played together before with some success, no? Both Feli and Fernando are ranked higher than Marcel – anywhere I can find out the rationale for doubles pairing? Very full of ?s – thanks in advvance for any info.
Unfortunately for Marc, Spain has six players in the top 24 (Rafa, Daveed, Almagro, Feli, Nando and Marcel) so it would be pretty hard to dash their hopes of playing in the Olympics just so that Rafa and Marc! could play doubles.
I too wish that Rafa & Marc would play mens doubles in the Olympics this year. They are an awsome combination and Marc is fantastic, especially around the net. They are also good friends and Marc looks like he has a very good effect on Rafa.
Yikes thats a tough first round match..hope to see it tho!
That’s quite a tough first tie but hopefully Rafa’s doubles confidence is high after Indian Wells :)
Doesn’t Marc go to Miami? Why upset a winning combo?

Here’s a good article on how they qualify for the Olympics. http://talkingballs-tennis.blogspot.ca/2012/03/guide-to-olympics-qualification.html

Btw, if you want to have a good laugh, check out Marc!’s ATP picture on his results page. http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Top-Players/Marc-Lopez.aspx?t=rb He looks sooooooo much better now with his short hair. It allows his wonderful smile and dimples to shine.
not a 1st match you would want but gotta go for it. GOOD LUCK.
I really thought Rafa and Marc were going to team up for the Olympics. *sniff* I’m disappointed.
