They were very focused today in the final, and prob have been all week. How wonderful for them to win again. For the time being they are the #6 ranked doubles team in the standings with their 1000 pts. Marc moved to #23 doubles player, up 11; and Rafa #66 I think up 97 places. Good for the morale of both players.
If only they could play a few more tournaments and keep that ranking up there. The first 10 pairs in the rankings get automatic entry into the Olympics but alas, it’s probably not to be. I’d love to see them playing.
Team Cuteness are such a joy. I’ve been smiling since their win today. Let this be a good start to the Rafa season, which starts in March ;D
BTW Miri, I don’t think #3 is from the final, not that I mind seeing the Rafa tummy though ;P

I was lucky to be there and it was a blast! Everybody in the crowd was loving it! I had never seen a doubles match before so this was all new and exciting for me. I had never seen Marc either and he played amazing! Rafa and Marc definitely make a good team. I’m guessing they’ll sign up together for doubles at the olympics.

I think there’s worries that Marc! might not be able to be on the Olympic team due to the number of higher ranked players they have and the limits on how many players from each team can participate. There’s chatter that Rafa will team with Marcel Granollers instead.
I really like Marcel but still think Feli would be a better option for a grass court tournament.
Such a great sight on Monday morning to see Rafa trophy biting.
They really deserved this win & hope it spurs Rafa on to improve his Miami record.
Sorry Miri, this is kind of off post, but the Olympics qualification system confuses me. I’m still not sure why Marc! can’t qualify. They can have 4 singles players PLUS two additional doubles players, and Marc is the highest ranked Spanish doubles player at the current time (although it will depend on rankings at 11 June) and he and Rafa are currently the #6 team in the world. I assume that “Any doubles players ranked 10 or better” refers to being in the Top 10 of their country’s rankings, but perhaps that’s what I’ve misunderstood. This is what the official “rules” state:
“MEN’S AND WOMEN’S DOUBLES
32 teams for the men’s and women’s doubles events will qualify as follows:
24 Direct Acceptances
8 Final qualification places (ITF Places)
32 Total
World Ranking, 11 June 2012
The ITF will select doubles teams from doubles nominations received from NOCs/National Associations for direct acceptance, taking into account the recognised international singles and doubles computer rankings of 11 June 2012 and the number and names of players already accepted into the singles events. A maximum
of 4 players, 2 doubles teams, from any one NOC may compete in the men’s and women’s doubles events.
Any doubles players ranked 10 or better based on the recognised international computer ranking of 11 June 2012 will have direct qualification for the doubles event, providing:
i) their nominated partner has a recognised international singles or doubles ranking on 11 June 2011
ii) they and their partner have been nominated as a doubles team by their respective NOC/national association, and
iii) the nomination does not bring the total number of competitors from that country to more than six (6)
…
Any player nominated and accepted for the singles event will automatically be eligible for selection for the
men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events.”

So confusing *sigh*!
Marc! has not participated in the Davis Cup for two years. Hence, he can’t qualify for the Olympics. And, according to information recently published by as and marca, Rafa has confirmed that indeed he’s going to team up with Marcel.
Thanks. That’s probably it. But then I also wonder why Rafa isn’t playing with Feli who’s great on grass. Or is FeVer still an item?

He must’ve applied chapstick after the match – look how red-rimmed his lips are, it’s from windburn and it’s very painful.
There are also many photos of Rafa applying chapstick on his dried-out and red-rimmed lips, made by fans at IW attending his practices.
