AO: El Mundo Q&A – day 1
Rafa’s first Q&A is up on El Mundo. Per the mangle it appears* that:
- Rafa, as always, refuses to look beyond the next round.
- He’s talked to DC captain Corretja, but doesn’t speculate on who will rep Spain in DC.
- He hopes Djokovic can’t repeat everything this year.
- He loves Murray, but hasn’t seen Lendl in action as a coach so has no opinion on that.
- He keeps his “no talking about player council items” resolution.
- Winning any title is nice, but majors are, well, a bit more major.
- The minor change in is racket weight (not the racket itself) is not an unnecessary risk because he doesn’t take those.
- He thinks Javier Marti is playing well and is perhaps a young Spanish player to watch.
- Abu Dhabi is a perfect way to prep for the AO. Besides, the scheduling problem is with tournaments, not exhibitions.
- He’s not taking any sides on El Classico because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings
*All conclusions mine based on a dubious translation and may or may not have any relation to reality.

Your summary pretty much reflects the content. So, it does have relation to reality ;-)
Glad Rafa’s not looking past the next round. Tommy Haas can be a very tough opponent if he’s fit and healthy.
Has Rafa been scared into not taking any sides/stating any opinion now even on a non-tennis subject like the El Clasico, when it’s so obvious where his allegiance lies? That’s really too bad.
