Injury story was incorrect
Per Rafa’s PR manager, Rafa does not have a hairline fracture.
Just to be clear: Rafa doesn’t have a fracture and he won’t be off 6 weeks. holidays & July 16th will play a golf tournament in Mallorca.
Then resume practice on July 17 th.
So, excellent news!
Rafa’s also updated his Facebook.
Good morning! Yesterday I couldn’t win. I didn’t play as well as in previous matches and Djokovic was more successful at key moments.
Now I will rest for a few days, and then start preparing the next tournament.
Thanks for your support! See you soon!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Golf tournament, lol. Happy holidays Rafa.
Yayyy awesome!
What a great news !!! I’m so glad he’s fine !!!
(darn, and I commented on rafa’s fb post that he better rest that fracture…whoops *feels guilty* T_T )
Was he not supposed to rest the foot? And thus had to skip Davis cup tie? Isn’t 16 July too soon to be training? But really fantastic news. Forget about tennis for a couple of days and do some other stuff and he might come back more inspired
He announced he wasn’t going to play Davis Cup before the round of 16 match where he injured the foot. The two things have nothing to do with each other.
WTF?!? This was in the Times and aren’t they supposed 2 verify 1st. Geesh!
Anyway, is a great new!
Vamos!!
Good! Such a relief to learn he realy is not seriously injured and that he might be stubborn but not a fool!
Now then, can i come swim with you Rafa?;)
A great new, of course. Interesting that a respected sports journalist makes such a mistake.
Rest for a few DAYS!? I was hoping for at least a few WEEKS. Hope he’s soaking in the Med already. (Nope. I’m not jealous. Not me. Never. ;))
Really hope the people of Mallorca let him win that golf tournament – it’s not Wimbledon but a trophy’s always nice no? ;) Great news. Glad he’s having a few weeks off too – really really good decision not to play Davis Cup. Recharging the batteries will do him a world of good before starting to work on the Djokovic puzzle.
Harman will be mortified. He’s got real integrity, and loves Rafa.
Great news and again a newspaper gets it wrong. Hope he’s already having fun back home!
What was the saying about not believing something until you hear it from the horses mouth…? Such great news to hear today! Enjoy your holiday Rafa.
Man I still can’t believe he’s lost. How has he let this guy inside his head? Less than a year after he beat him so well in the US Open? Its been a tough day for me being such a loyal NaDal fan. Pick it up Rafa
Well at this level Amit, its all in the head, Rafa used to always have the upper hand against Djoker, how ever tough there matches are, now Djoko has become this brick wall. (a la Rafa) so to speak then Rafa must now find his own mental strength to break him down like Fed did at the French!
Fabulous news! Hope he gets some well deserved rest and relaxation. I know when he gets back into tennis mode he will work hard and come back better than ever. Happy holidays Rafa.
Very glad to hear he is alright.
But it’s the july 4h holiday here and i am not in good spirits. Of course I am still sulking Rafa lost and I am such a loser that I will take longer than Rafa himself to get over this :(
I can’t help but remember exactly one yr ago I was in Greece and I dragged my wife to an Irish pub to watch the finals. My flight back home the next day was even more pleasant since we went via London heathrow and I bought every possible newspaper at the airport with Rafa lifting the trophy. (I still have those papers)
Alas it was not meant to be his year.
Perhaps next yr I will have to go back to Greece to the same Irish pub to watch Wimby!!
Until then it’s time to make some trips to Arthur Ashe stadium and hope to see Rafa win.
Vamos Rafa. Rest up and feel better.
Happy 4th, JK! Hope you’re having a great day with your family. I am in Greece and watched the whole tournament here and it didn’t do much to boost our hopes for the 11th.
But as in all things, hope floats, so there! On to the USO.
:)
Yes, do come back to Greece. I only know of one Irish pub so I assume that was the one you went to. ;)
Not sure and I dont think I remember the name anymore :)
JK – I was in Mallorca when he won and I too bought all the papers there and watched all week while my friends went out and about – Fans or what eh! Good news about the foot x
Good news. I am looking forward to Nadal beating Djokovic in the upcoming hardcourt season.
Does anyone one know where and how this rumor started? I mean I know Neil Harman tweeted yesterday – but what was his source for this data?
He didn’t tweet it, it was in the article he wrote on the final for The Times. No mention of source.
Kudos to his imagination :)
I did see your tweet to him today and then he apologized :)
I thought your comments to Neil this afternoon were perfect, miri. Well done.
I thought I was a bit harsh, but seriously – that’s something one should triple check and source before printing in such a widely distributed and well thought of paper.
It was little harsh – but well deserved.
As I said, as far as I can see, Harman is a man (not just a journalist) of real integrity. He likes Rafa, and has defended and been kind about him in the past when he’s had bad times, so I think it’s not something he would publish unless he felt he had very good sources. He did not, for example, publish anything about Rafa’s parents until it was confirmed by his team, and when he did mention it, it with real sympathy and gentleness, so he’s not just a cheap headline-grabber. I think he deserves respect and should be forgiven his errors – we all make them.
I read somewhere (I wish I could remember where) that the source was something Rafa said in Spanish at his presser.
Rafa denied he had a serious problem like a fracture after he had his MRI scan following his match against Delpo. So harman seems to have been implying Rafa was lying unless he some how failed to note what Rafa said at the time which sounds unlikely. It all seems typical of the press, speculation without basis.
Does anyone else get the feeling that the loss at Wimbledon has a lot to do with tiredness? I always tend to think that Rafa does too much and hides his fatigue. At one or two points during the final he seemed to be slow to react as when Nole got his angled drop shot back in play. All the discussion about Novak being in Rafas head may be true; but maybe too much play and commercial work plus the virus from early in the year is also at fault. Thinking and movement slow down when you are fatigued and judgement deteriorates. He is the sort of person to play on regardless.
Rafa can get away by lying saying he has not fracture even if he did. He is not obligated to disclose his problems openly to give away an advantage to his opponent.
I don’t think the tiredness is to be blamed. He was crisp and sharp through the other games. As he correctly stated it was a couple of key points that he didnt play well due to nervousness.
Our rafa is a genius and greatest comeback king.afterall he has reached almost every final this year.as far as nole riddle is concerned ,its just a matter of time b4 he whacks off nole.HAVE FAITH IN OUR CHAMP !
Fracture news was fake! yes i believed it frm the very first moment i heard it.
Just dying to hav a look how rafa looks playing golf…(shit man! Some channel should have telecasts it).hey miri can u plz find a video clip of that..
So some nice relaxing in the blue seas of Mallorca, (nothing like it), then some chilling’ golf, thats it Rafa do what YOU love most ok!
I don’t expect much from here this year, not with Djoko, riding on this sky high ocnfidence thingy at the mo, as long as he is healthy still I am happy!

Just coincidental or should we need to read between the lines for why he pulled out !
He announced the weekend before he was pulling out of DC – to the Spanish press.
