So I just watched part one. Was totally fascinated and yet didn’t understand a word. I think, somehow, I’m expecting that if I listen long enough i will begin to make sense of Spanish/Mallorquí. ?! ;)
I have picked up a lot of Spanish in the last two years from one of my clients. Just by listening and watching the facial movements and expressions. Mostly swear words and various sex acts. So I am ready for a conversation with Rafa. ;) OR Tio Toni. ;P
Thanks for that. How crazy are we – have watched all 4 & didn’t understand 1 word but still enjoyed it! Toni seems like a really lovely man – everyone spoke so enthusiastically about him & it seems that he’s also great fun.
I just spent the good part of an hour looking at talking heads. Mostly good-looking talking heads but still, help! I think I need to go to rehab.
Random thoughts:
1. I’ve never seen pix of young Toni with a beard. He was handsome, still is.
2. Grandpa has given Rafa his eyebrows.
3. Curious about the time Rafa had his “muy grave” foot injury. It was before I joined the cult ;P
4. Come to think of it, it’s tragic that I don’t understand what the man of my dreams says in his own language. Damn the tower of Babel!
LOL you just totally made me crack up.
Yes, I so wish I could speak a the Spanish!
But from all the countless hours of watching TVE news, reading Armada tweets (using translate), and watching YouTube videos with subtitles, I think I can proudly say I understand about 10% these days!! Woot!
I think you are right – the more I am exposed to Spanish, the more I pick up. I listened to a Spanish stream during Fri’s DC matches when my English one conked out, and to my surprise I could follow the more basic stuff.
Can’t watch the vid above in work, but will def have to see the young Toni when I get in tonight!
Thanks! :-)

Take a look at 18 y.o. Rafa on crutches, after suffering a stress fracture of a small bone in his left foot at Estoril in spring 2004:

He couch-potatoed at home for 4 months, missed Roland Garros, cried, thought that it was all over with tennis for him.
Then he slowly recovered and next year won his first slam.
yeah I know Robert thats why our Rafa is made of steel! he has been through hell! for his sport.
It’s unreal how much he’s been thru despite so young. It didn’t come easy for him.
Thanks so much Miri. Wonderful!

Don’t understand the words, but found it ‘felt’ great.
