USO: Rafa blog #1
Thanks to Rafangel for sending this in!
Hello everyone,
Here I am again writing this blog, this time from New York. Last time I wrote to you all was after my Wimbledon win earlier this summer. I know it was a couple of days after but I made it … so here I am again, excited and happy to write this blog. It kind of brings me good luck, but the most important thing is that it allows me to communicate directly with all of you and tell you what I think, what I feel.
Let me start by saying that I got here to NY 10 days ago. I came straight from Cincinnati after I lost in the quarter finals against Baghdatis. Since then I have been practicing as much as I could here in NY. I say that since it rained a lot the week previous to the event. However I got in good practice time and I feel ready.
Many thanks to all and hope to be writing this blog for the next 2 weeks!!!!

Thanks Rafangel! I was wondering about the blog and would be upset if there would be no blog this time. It’s become such a ritual for slams, even if Rafa can only manage a few lines sometimes.
Alas I’m going on holiday to deepest darkest nowhere and will be away not only from TVs (my tragedy) but computers (yours) – though no doubt wizard miri will track him down somewhere.
Oh, I’m sure wizard Miri will find a way heh. Enjoy your vacation and we will keep an eye on Rafa for you ;-)
Thanks, I intend to despite the annual torture of not being able to see His Loveliness. Thanks also for keeping an eye on him for me; I must admit I’ve worried how he’ll cope knowing that I’m not able to watch him ;)
VAMOS!
We hope so too Rafa.. we are looking forward to seeing your blog for the next two weeks and hoping that you will write your last blog a few days after USO just like you did at Wimbly! (after winning it) :)
I would really, really like to know why he actually writes them. Maybe just a superstition thing now. But he obviously doesn’t enjoy it, he doesn’t need the cash (I think it’s donated to his foundation but he could just donate that money and save himself the effort), and I really can’t believe he feels the need to communicate with his fans and tell us what he thinks and feels. Of course, he might be doing it for our sakes, but it seems a step too far really – he’s already so generous with signing things, for example.
Still, I am very glad you do, Rafito. Keep it up :)
Rafa likes having fan support when he plays and this is one way of cultivating it. Plus I think he kind of enjoys the Q&A part. I’m sure Benito is the driving force behind it. I also think Rafa’s come to turns with his “blog” being what he calls a “digital diary” rather than an insightful piece on a topic.
I think the Times Online has always been very kind in its coverage of Rafa and the fact that he blogs for them couldn’t hurt with that.
Good luck Rafa :))
Thank you Miri and Rafangel!
Is the email address for Q&A submissions the same as it usually is?
Yeah: rafa@timesonline.co.uk though the website is advertising it as rafael.nadal@thetimes.co.uk. That doesn’t work but you never know, it might change… The website has become amazingly rubbish since they started charging for it.
Thanks Rafangel! I actually think Rafa likes being and feeling close to his fans especially after 2009, he said its what got him through some difficult moments, all the support really kept him going and motivated!
So lets keep it up!
He actually answered one of my questions @ Wimbledon this year and I was so pleased, he is a great champion at heart and I DO feel its genuine more than he is given credit for! and ok just a teeny bit of superstition too prehaps!
I hope you will be writing this blog for the next 2 weeks too :)
Reading Rafa tell us what he eats, when he sleeps, what dvd he’s watching, when he’s practicing … puts a smile on my face. I’m totally devoted.
