Enjoying some golf [Updated]

Looks like Rafa’s been enjoying some golf.

Bee sends in the following sum-up of the vid:

I can’t give a full translation of the video but can give a brief synopsis…

From next week Rafa Nadal will start training having taken advantage of time to receive treatment on his knees. Now he has his sights on the US tour and the only Grand Slam that he doesn’t have, the US Open.

Rafa: I haven’t got a thorn in my side about the US Open, no, I am not obliged to win the 4. I have won 3 and that is more than I could ever have imagined in my life, and I am very happy with everything I have achieved. I will do everything possible to play well I have reached the semi finals twice.

Toni: He is amongst the favourites but not the maximum favourite. To win the US Open would be something very important, it would mean that he would have won the 4….

He goes on to talk about the football and how he hopes it is a success that they are good people… when he gives a little laugh he is talking about Uncle Miguel Àngel training with the team and running like the players but he is enjoying it.

The reporter ends by saying that although there are the two tournaments leading up to the US Open it is probable that he will only participate in one of them in order to arrive at the US Open in peak condition.

Ahh, getting followed around by cameras while playing golf with friends … living just like everyone else in Manacor, he is. ;)

Mock turtleneck?? Oh Rafa. Tomeu lookin’ cute though.

    • miri says:

The lack of socks bug me more than the mock turtleneck.

      • Ramara says:

Neither bother me, maybe because when I was young barefoot sneakers with talcum powder were IN. (this was back when in was in).

But it does bother me that Mardy Fish apparently plays tennis without socks. And it bothered me that Verdasco played indoors at the DC with his cap on forward. Are his eyes light sensitive? Has he got a bald spot on top?

      • tiemyshoe says:

I didn’t notice! Are his shoes tied at least?

      • CC says:

Oh, no. The mock turtleneck is #1 here. Awful. I think the socklessness looks good, but is still wrong for other reasons. I’m hoping he’s wearing Nike socklets ;), but think that might not be the case. He seems to have a tendency to wear trainers sockless at tournaments and inbetween as well. You never really see him in flipflops and the like. That surprises me.

        • an says:

          Agree!

Looks like we need to go down to Mallorca again CC….
This shirt def. needs to be trown away!

Oh Rafa, will you never learn? Or are you doing it on purpose because you just want us to come over??
          In that case, smart boy;)

  2. Inés says:

If I don’t understand badly, at the end of the video it says that probably he will only play one of the two masters, the same thing as one TVE’s commentator said yesterday while he was broadcasting the tournament of Bastad

  3. Maya says:

If Rafa just plays one of the two MS 1000′s coming up I think it will be Toronto just because he’s always done so well there. It’s also smokin hot in Cincinnati in August.

  4. Inés says:

My opinion…. he will choose to play in Toronto, if he lose in first or second round he would still have the option of Cincinnati, in addition, I’ve heard him a couple of times that Cincinnati is, for him, the least favorite tournament of all masters

    • miri says:

It’s the least favorite for a lot of the players. There isn’t exactly a lot of entertainment or dining options for downtime in Mason, OH – the tournament isn’t even in Cincinnati proper where they’d have more options.

      • Inés says:

Well, lol, I heard him to say that the tournament is in the middle of nowhere

Tomas Carbonell, a former tennis player and now commentator of TVE does not understand that a Masters is played there, especially after removing Hamburg as Master 1000

        • RM says:

Since I will be in Toronto, we all need to pray that he goes there! Is there anyone else planning to go to that tournament??

          • xta says:

            i am…(unless he cancels)…

          • Ramara says:

I’m going to Toronto for quarterfinals day – both sessions! I have a passion for quarterfinals. The last and only time I saw a tennis match in person was when Jimmy Connors was #1. Don’t plan to do anything other than plant myself in my seat and try to survive. Sunscreen, cushion and a rain cape? Any other suggestions?

    • MindGames says:

Makes lot of sense. He shd play in toronto n if he goes semis or higher no need to play Cinci. If he chooses still to play, he will be unnecessarily tiring himself ahead of the BIG BATTLE.

Really not sure what added advtg he has by stressing himself to play back to back masters.

Otherway if he loses before quaters then may be he can think of Cinci.

Goal shd be to crack USO 2010.

  5. sharon says:

We know that Rafa’s water bottles have to be just so, with the labels pointing in the direction of the side that he’s playing from, but the very last bit of this video made me wonder, do the labels have to be in a certain place before he can drink from the bottle??? Oh Rafa. Your OCD is so cute!!

  6. Fay says:

Yes I was a little surprised at the turtle neck too, but to be honest it doesn’t bother me I just love watching him focus even on his golf! good to see he is playing down his US chances, wise Rafa as always! we just know you really wanna win it Rafa!
I suspect too that he will choose Toronto where he is a former 08 champ, and which suits his game better, and depending on results he will either pass on Cincy or play it for better preperation, all in all they are thinking wisely!

  7. blue says:

From football to Golf. Bouncy Rafa to subdued Rafa!

  8. Atch2 says:

I think I’m in the minority about Rafa’s top when I say it looks mighty golfy cool on him. Maybe because I’ve seen it on the professional golfers before, and Rafa fills it out well whereas it sometimes sags on the skinny guys. I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned up with a vest on top and plaid pants next, just to be that more golfy.

Anyone notices Uncle Toni’s ‘iberostar’ logo getting bigger and bigger each next? I expect he will need a bigger hat to fit the logo next year.

And Uncle Miguel Angel, just as fit and fine as those younger football players half his age.

  9. sia says:

Miri … the video doesn’t seem to want to play.

  10. RAFAFAN says:

Yep, the video does’nt play. PLEEZZZ I MUST see Rafa in his turtle neck :)

  11. sia says:

    Here it is on utube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvdVCUiR-tI&feature=player_embedded
I think Rafa looks cute in his t-neck.

  12. RAFAFAN says:

Thank you sia, I agree, very cute!

  13. gottakeeprunning says:

I think he looks good in that turtle-neck… probably the colour is what does it – white looks great against his skin tone, but he must have been boiling hot, the temperatures in Mallorca have been in the mid 30s!

    • blue says:

I was thinking the same thing. The shirt looked thick and in half turtle neck. Must be very hot, considering the very high temp (30 up) in Mallorca now.

      • Karen says:

I like the ‘turtleneck’, but hope he’s getting lots of sun on that body too. He should remove his cap during interviews so we can at least see his face. If he does well in Toronto & decides not to play Cinci I wonder what his excuse could be for not playing Cinci. Don’t think ” I need a rest” or “I need to take things easy” are gonna be good enough excuses.

      • Atch2 says:

It’s a Nike shirt so it’s probably made of some high technological fabric that keeps Rafa dry and cool with built-in air conditioning set at 23.5 degrees Celsius, and white will reflect any sun. What I wonder is how he keeps it so clean and free of food stains.

And sweet Tomeu. Hope Rafa doesn’t boss him around too much and lets him drive the gold buggy once in a while.

  14. Rafafan says:

The only reason for the turtle neck is so obvious – he is covering up something – yes the french kiss from Xisca has gone too far! I think they overindulged after the WC, the Wimby and the FO. He doesn;t like tatoos and certainly doesn’t want to show any kis kis marks! That’s the only reason I can explain the turtle neck in a 40 degree heat, and it sure wasn’t gonna stop him play golf knowing he gonna have cameras around. Oh it so nice to be young again! Dopn’t you all remember when we had to cover up our necks and otner things before now. How sweet he is………. xxx
