SoBeFit preview
They keep teasing us with previews and, while some people have reported luck in finding these in the store, they still have the old issue where I live. So, here’s another preview. This time, we do get some teasers of the article text. (Article by Marta Montenegro).
When you consider Rafael Nadal’s impressive physique, it’s hard to picture him at a standstill sidelined by injuries. But that’s what he has been facing, battling ailments (first the knee, later in his abdominal muscles, and now the knee again) that affected his performance while he was trying to defend his most recent grand slam titles. So how do you bring a gladiator back to his top physical form?
“Indoor physical work is as vital to achieve balance and compensation as all the effort you put on court during matches, since elite-level athletes tend to push their bodies to the limit,” Nadal says. “During the rehab process, I relied on the pool and the elliptical trainer for most of my cardio work, and chose pulleys for weight training, since they allowed me to focus not just on the concentric part of the move but also in the eccentric component that is vital in tennis.”
While Rafa knows the nature of his injuries and how much they affected him during the latest tour, he still considers them more manageable than the ones he suffered back in 2005, when a persistent foot support lesion stopped his meteoric ascent in the rankings. Rafa still refers to those days of uncertainty as his roughest time as a pro tennis player.
In contrast, his current situation finds him mentally prepared to deal with adversity, so he’s confident about the eventual return to top form. Instead of dwelling on his lack of playing time, Rafa has learned to take the rehabilitation process as a chance to improve his game, putting extra effort on fine-tuning his serve and developing a more efficient attack strategy at the net.
In our exclusive interview with Rafa, he talks about his love for fishing, how he still gets nervous before a game and much more. Pick up the March/April 2010 issue to read the full interview.

I’ve ordered a copy of the March issue. Hope to get it soon.
How much was postage and where to? I’m in Oz, think it’ll cost a bomb, as usual :(
I just ordered one to be posted to the UK. Magazine was $10, postage $15. #sigh# Will have to go work out what that is in pounds, not sure want to know for one magazine.
There is also a short video on the website of the cover shoot for the article.
US$10 for the mag and US$15 for the postage to Thailand aswell.
Pfffft…US$25 to buy a magazine?! I generally dislike fitness people. Even more if they have fake tits. No way I’m paying that lady my money. No friggin’ way.
$10 for the issue + $5 shipping and handling to US
Yes, they are a big tease. I’ve only seen one of these in the stores and it’s the old issue. Gah!
Gonna order this from the website and do the habitual pay more for postage than it costs. But hey. He’s Rafa and he’s worth it. The photos are lovely too and I want them in hard copy.
Hrmm, why do I suddenly think it’d be really hot to hear Rafa say the word “concentric” out loud?
Where does one purchase one of these magazines?
I’ve seen the old one at Barnes and Noble here. Plus, skyjaden said she found the current one at a B&N in her area…so if there’s a B&N near you, I’d try there first.
Much thanks(:
I ordered mine from the SoBeFit website for $10.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling. I waiting for it.
Can’t wait to read this. thanks!
“fine-tuning his serve and developing a more efficient attack strategy at the net” wonderful to hear.
Also luv luv that photo Miri. None of the guys at my work can pull off looking that hot in a shirt and tie. Wow that left arm muscle is bursting.
How cool is Marta’s job? She gets to interview Rafa, style him in the photo shoot (fondles with his hair, rub his shoulders) and be in the photos with him.
Glad it’s a 2 mth issue, so I can wait to see if someone I know to go to America and buy a copy for me. And if all else fails, order it online.
I found the Rafa edition of the magazine at a Brooklyn Barnes & Noble today. I couldn’t find it on the shelves, but I asked at the customer service desk and she disappeared for a while and came back with it. Hopefully everyone else can find it!
Found one at a Barnes & Noble in Alabama today without having to do anything special except gape at all the fitness magazines until I spotted my quarry. The photos are nice, but although she apparently interviewed Rafa three times, she didn’t get much out of him except that if he regains the #1 ranking, he and his dad are going to buy a yacht together.
The interviews with Feli, Nando and Moya are nice. I haven’t watched the DVD preview of them yet.
Nice. Guess who’s going to BN tomorrow! Hope they’ve updated the stock in Huntville!
Hooray! I got a copy. My nearby BN still had the lone copy of the last issue. I debated going crosstown to another location and thought “it’s Rafa hit the road”. On the way I stopped at a Books A Million where they have a huge mag/newstand section but alas no SoBeFit >O
I kept on to BN and there were none on the shelves (not even the old issue) but then I turned the corner and Rafa was smiling at me from a side rack. I will have a lovely Sunday evening :)
Glad you found it, almost-neighbor! It’s a nice issue – interviews with Rafa, Uncle Toni, Nando, Feli, Moya, Djokovic, and Azarenka, plus articles on the rise, fall and rise of tennis in the US over the past 35 years, tennis-specific exercises, and so forth. The DVD has interviews with Feli, Nando and Moya – very cute. Its focus is the Miami area, so that’s probably why others are having trouble finding it (although the staff page lists various regional salespeople).
Thanks Denizen! When you said you got one in AL, I think I let out a shout of glee :) I look forward to all the features.
Upon further reading, I see that the issue has a feature on Rafa’s favorite Miami restaurant, which appears to be a couple of blocks from the magazine’s offices. Also, the magazine sponsored a fundraiser tonight for Gonzo’s earthquake relief efforts, with Feli and Nando and Moya participating. http://bit.ly/bZsudP
I’ve ordered my copy online, the minute miri told us about it. Yes, too much money, but I can’t resist much when it comes to Rafa (well, I did resist the cap, so far, at least :)).
Yeah, I couldn’t resist, and the fact that it is a general tennis issue with the other guys in as well helped. Worked out £16 which is insane for a magazine, but….I really wanted one and don’t do it all the time!
Dithering on the cap. Approached the website with visa clasped in sweaty paw, then realised it would be something like £63, of which less than half goes to the Fundacion, so ran away whimpering. Plus don’t think there is a hole in the back of it which is essential for me as long hair. Think would rather donate direct to the Fundacion to be honest.
I did order the hat… Its arriving tomorrow.
But gonna pass on the mag.
At least i can “explain” why the hat by the fact that it is a contribution to the foundation… paying 25 USD. for the magazine would only be contributing to the additor and the transporter….
But i tought off it not having a hole in the back for the ponytail and therefore be not so handy to wear then the black an white one ( wich i also bought;) ) too, Emma R…
But gonna solve it with wearing it with loose hair or a verry low pony tail:)
My Barnes & Noble in NC had 3 copies (until I bought all of them!). They came in a clear wrapper along with a DVD promo for this Maria woman’s workout system. No Rafa on the DVD, but lots of Nando, Feli, and Carlos Moya. Trust me, it’s a keeper! That woman cannot keep her hands off of Feli’s abs – but who could blame her? BTW, the woman stocking the mags had never heard of SoBeFit and was sure they did not carry it – then she waved me toward the women’s fitness section, and I found them myself! Unfortunately, I do not have a working flatbed scanner or I would send in the article – sorry!
Went to SanAn today to visit a friend. I stopped at 3 B&Ns and no sign. I asked at one place and she said, “we didn’t order it this month because it wasn’t selling.” On the way home, I stopped at the B&N near me again and they have about 20 copies of the old one, no new one. Bet they aren’t going to order either. *sigh*
Anyone know where I can get it in England?
Went to Borders today. They had January/Feb issue. Don’t have current issue yet I was told.
Anyone not in the US order it and receive it yet? I’m in Oz and ordered it a week ago. But in the order confirmation doesn’t say when to expect it :( Just curious if anyone got it in the mail yet.
Anyone read the mag and has anything interesting things to share?
