So instead of fiddling with his watch, now he eats a cookie during his post-match, pre-interview ritual?

Seems to be – and he grabbed a few more before hitting with the kid.

Ha, that aspect of the sponsorship is so odd. I wonder if Rafa asked for it? ‘Cause I bet you anything he’d be eating cookies, sponsor or no. He just doesn’t have to wait to get in the locker room. “You know what would reaaaally increase visibility…”

Yes as all can see from the vid, he started off well but during the seconds set game 5 and 6 he started to spray a few, he seemed a little frustrated by it..

Wow! Did anyone see the one handed backhand lob that Rafa hit? (at 1:33 in this video)
That was amazing. Such good hands..

Rafa hasn’t really been tested in this tournament. Unlike Fed (whose pre-grandslam form is irrelevant to his GS chances), Rafa is a player who relies on momentum and confidence. He needs a few good matches before the AO to feel on the top of his game.

I’m actually more interested in seeing Rafa play Davydenko in the final than Federer. We know how he’s going to approach the match against Federer. Whether he wins or not is another story. ( And I do think Fed is the favorite on a best of 3 hc match). But Davydenko is a player who has given Rafa so much trouble on hard courts before and has beaten him twice very recently. I would love to see whether Nadal can make any adjustments. Rafa will surely not win against Davydenko by playing passive tennis, and his movement will be sorely tested. While Daydenko is certainly not a better player than Federer( far from it), he’s definitely a worse match-up for Nadal on a best of a 3 match where unlike the plexicushion of AO the ball does not kick up as much. That match will give the best indication of Rafa’s form and his chances for the rest of the season IMO.

I agree. But I wouldn’t think of it as disaster if he lost to Davydenko at this stage, cause in his WTF form, Davydenko turned out to be too good for anyone. It would take a top Rafa performance to beat him on this surface but if Rafa can’t deliver that performance on any given day yet, I would expect at least a very close match with a game plan and a lot of pressure on behalf of Rafa.
I think Davydenko really constructs his points very carefully and during their last two matches Rafa was way too busy trying to feel the ball or just get it across the net to figure anything out. Plus Davydenko handles pressure well so I agree this would be a very good test for Rafa on all fronts.

Still, WTF was an indoor court and it seems that Rafa handles outdoor hard courts much better. I think that if he gets to the final and plays Davydenko, it will be a really different match and a close one indeed.

LOL Rafa looks so bored in the on-court interview.

Heah Jimmy – love the way you analyse things! – was beginning to miss you. Absolutely agree – would love to see Davy v Rafa. I think Davy is much more dangerous – Rafa has the game for Fed. I seriously don’t think there is a problem there. To be honest the way Davy is going I reckon he can win a grand slam – ok i know it’s over 2 weeks but heah the better players are just 3 matches at the end. God why am I routing for him now! Well what do we say about our boy Rafa – well, er not a lot. You can’t really analyse – I reckon Rafa is playing not much better thahn the WTF. Of course Rafa has got to keep the momentum going and say all the right things.

U know what – I am seriously being turned off by him with the promotinal thing. Cant stand the chockies eat now. I know we said he was a very bad actor in commercials b4 but heah now we know where all the tics come from – water bottles a la Nevian, socks pulling up and butt picking, Nike shorts, socks – in fact anything with a tick – heah including the seat bands and the bandanda! – how many times has he wiped himself b4 the serve – over 35 seconds.

Sorry this so irritates me – Rafa if you, your management team or Benito are scouring the net, get a grip and just sort your tennis out and not try and get as much money as poss. – so you think you might have a short career? OK I know you have to pay your parents back as they have supported you throughout but the latest ridiculous cooky thing on court is a NO NO!!! (still love you though but please no) xxxx

Thanks Rafafan. Looks like we’re in for a Fed-Rafa final. ( I have a feeling that in the SF Federer will blitz the Russian this time around). The last time Fed-Rafa faced each other in a hard-court 3 set match was in 2007. That’s a long time ago given what all has happened since then. I still think Federer is the favorite against Rafa here as the surface is quicker and lower bouncing than the AO.

In any case, I don’t think a win will mean that much for Federer, other than as a way of getting the H2H to look less like a young guy bullied him.

However for Nadal a win against Federer in the final would be like a shot in the arm. Confidence is the key for him. A loss could be nasty; but nevertheless, I am glad that he’s thumping his forehand and moving around the baseline with the same aggressive intent as he did pre-injury.

I love it when he eats the cookies … I find it hilarious ha ha ha.

Luv that the tots are really taking it seriously in the rallies, and Rafa’s lowering his usual intensity so they can return.
