I have this urge to be *really* obsessive and time/count how many seconds/times Fed & Rafa appear, and if it’s balanced.

Rafa wins in the first one!!! Big improvement on last year when all the ads were virtually all Fed. I’ve been beside myself with excitement since the first ad screened in Oz on 26 December. Not sure how I’m going to get through the next couple of weeks until I head to Melbourne… I love the fact that Channel 7 here goes tennis crazy from Christmas until the end of January – all the new series of popular TV shows have to wait until after the tennis!

Yep no what you mean. Not a fed in sight in the first one and more of Rafa than Fed in the second. I heard the AO commentators are very biased towards Fed but may have changed their tune recently.

Yes, I got seriously pissed off during the final last year and spent a lot of pointless time and energy (well, not entirely pointless because it made me feel better) shouting at the commentators who were convinced Rafa would be destroyed after that epic semi and couldn’t possibly sustain his energy for 5 sets and that Fed was going to win. Every time he lost a point they virtually wrote him off.

I vaguely *ahem* remember yelling abuse at the TV about them talking shit and that Rafa was like the Energiser bunny and could go on and on and on all night. Don’t go there Ladies ;) I know what you’re thinking!!! I’m not going to comment on how Fer can keep up with him too… damn it, couldn’t stop myself!!!! Coming over all feverish again (this Spanish flu is hard to shake isn’t it? So many strains, how can we avoid repeated exposure?)!

Anyway, I digress. There is a god-like awe of Federer here, which has certainly worn a bit thin on me. Yup, great player, undoubtedly one of the greatest ever, technically superb, but with a serious losing record against Rafa. Due respects to our beloved Mowgli Mr Commentators this year please…!

I lurrrve watching Rafa in slowmotion hit his awsome forehand, its so unique, the motion I mean! and I loved his combo of night colours last year, charcoal and acid green looked great on Rafa!

Yep, these colours always bring back that exciting feeling I had when he first won the semi against Verdasco and, second, won the title!

LOVE the ads and can’t wait to see them in person…i’m going to the open (first time ever in australia) and if anybody has any tips for me i’d appreciate it…

Great ads, luv the different roars and the racket smashing before Serena’s part.

Aussies are mellow and hyperactive, and luv their tennis. Mel city’s a great big-little city, in a grid layout. Everything is in walking distance but the trams are really great, and the street names make it easy to navigate, e.g., Collins Str and Little Collins Str, Bourke Str and Little Bourke Str etc. There’s a free AO shuttle that runs thru the city frequently and they don’t even check if you have tickets to the tennis. The Yarra is beautiful as it runs along the city, and makes the city charming so take a walk along it if you have the time. Try the pavlova with the fresh cream and fruit if you have a sweet tooth. Bring a personal fan incase there’s another 40+ heat wave like last yr. I think there’s also a limitation to the flags you’re allowed to bring to the matches, so better check the AO website. There’s many theatres, so you can catch a musical if you like them like Rafa. The volunteer staff are strict but fair, and they make u form a proper queue on the outside courts, and only let you to your seats during the changeovers. If you want souvenir t-shirts, esp from Nike get them early bec they go pretty fast. And you may catch Rod Laver buying from the food stalls in his named stadium bec I read he buys his own food. That’s all I can think of for now. Have a great time.
