Rusty but Victorious

Rafa moved through to the next round after a retirement from David Ferrer, who seemed to have issues with his knee (to which Rafa seemed ready to commiserate. I imagine them sitting around the locker room, staring balefully at their knees). Rafa wasn’t playing all that well, struggling with unforced errors and his serve. To me he seemed a little rusty, not quite into the groove of a match the way he usually is. A win is a win, however, and I’m sure he’ll take it. As will I.

I third that Dutchgirl & AnaR, seemed relaxed and getting a feel for “master serious” play again. Think his “rusty” has worn off, had to watch streaming vid as ESPN2 ended after Roddick match and TC playing WTA
so didn’t get the “full Rafa effect, although it would freeze with a close up on him, Not so bad…..
Tomorrow though in all his splendor!

Nando likely got some good confidence from his match and I think he’ll continue to do well in summer hardcourt season. Rafa’s movement is going to be watched like a hawk for some time, but I have to say that I think it could be a good thing for him to conserve and only go “all out” when he needs to. We all know that he loves to treat each point as though it’s for the trophy, but maybe he’s learning that he can let a few go here and there and still win comfortably. If anyone gets a hold of his post match presser, will you please post it?

I’m so so so happy for our man. He played 150% compared to yesterday. He only made 10 unforced errors during the match and in the 1st set his first serves he did get in (over 70%) he had 100% winning rate. Our boy should be pretty happy with those stats. His 2nd set slip a bit % wise, but petzschner faught back harder. Rafi put much pressure on him. We can’t appreciate the power play bec we’re not there, but our miri was. Hope she thoroughly enjoyed watching our bronzed adonis win

But sia.. Have you seen the hug as long between Roddick and Fer when they finished the match.. The greatness of a player is measured by the rival he has. Yesterday could have won either .. was an absolutely amazing match ..very, very tight and very bright. Both were very good and so the public appreciated them standing up clapping like rewarded when the match finished .. ¡Fantástico Andy (I admit having a weakness for him) and our fantastic Fer .. it is becoming a stronger player!.
