TVE interview with subtitles

Meriko has posted the videos with embedded subtitles. How wonderful is that? Per her note, the translation was done by babi of vamosbrigade.com – so thanks to them both.

Thanks so much for this! I often wondered why some of the lengthier interviews couldn’t give subtitles rather than transcript translations. It’s a joy to read and understand while watching the facial expressions. Oh was a precious young man he is. I truly hope and pray that his knees will be healed so that we can see him in Monreal, but mostly I want him to be happy and healthy. I’m keeping my positive aktitude and believe he’ll be there!!!

  2. Debbie says:

Thanks VBers Meriko and Babi! Thanks Miri for posting. This is fabulous to have this all together!

  3. faecoleman says:

Yes this is very kind of Meriko and Babi! thanx alot! He’s such a genuine guy, and he’s optomistic as always, I truly hope all goes well for him, such a great great person as well as being the greatest fighter the tennis world has ever seen! We are all praying for you, remarkable Rafa!!! *got to have faith*

  4. mary says:

I watched this with not sub titles. I’m gonna enjoy this, thanks

  5. mary says:

Oh Rafa is way beyond his years. I definitely think he is an old soul. I guess he has been in the public arena for so long and question and proded. I know he loves his tennis and we adore anything thats Rafa and his tennis of course, but sometimes I wonder if he ever had a childhood. Maybe thats why he has his entourage and his playstation and he behaves like a big kid with his mates.
I floved that bit when she asked him about the machines being envied that a machined slept with him. Oh I’m jealous as well. Maybe she was giving him a hint. If it were me I would.!!!! :)

    • Suzanne says:

The cute and funny thing is that it seemed to just waft over his head. He’s so unaware of how adorable he is. He truely wonders why people love him so much and thinks it might be because he tries so hard. I don’t know about the childhood thing, but although he does seem like an old soul, he also seems to “get” kids. I’ve seen lots of pics of him with his neices and nephews and seems to love playing with them. And remember the video of him in the making of his foundation calendar with the little downs syndrome girl? He was so at home and playful with her and not at all uncomfortable with her disability. Oh what a cutie pie!!! I’d love to see my niece marry someone like him (talk about living vicariously!!!).

    • Carol says:

I do think he had a childhood… Tom Oldfield’s biography refers to him having lots of school friends, being popular and being happy in Manacor. I don’t think he could be the lovely person he is today without a degree of normality in his early life.

Really enjoyed seeing this with subtitles – one to go back to time after time…

  6. patzin says:

It is nice to hear it basically verbatim – not just a summary. thanks

  7. Atch2 says:

I’ve only able to see part 1 (hvg trouble with part 2 as it always shows up as ‘an error occured, pls try again later’), but I felt seeing the subtitles and visuals at the same time, that Rafa seemed a few times sad/frustrated with his situation which is understandable. I want to hear him say “I am 100% fit, confident and ready to play”.

    • mary says:

I agree with u atch2. We haven’t heard it yet as he has to push his knees to see how they fair. My only concern is unless he plays a match how can he really tell with just practicing? Playing a match and practicing are two different things!!!!

      • An says:

Youre right but I’m sure he knows what he’s doing…
I think he has a way to find out!

        • Suzanne says:

I agree, however, many times I’ve heard people like Brad Gilbert and Darren Cahill say that it’s so fun to watch Rafa practice because he treats each shot as though it’s the real deal. He’s even competitive during practice, evidently, so hopefully that will work in his favor…although it is probably also a detriment to his knees.

  8. Debs says:

Suddenly the interview makes more sense now with the English subtitles, you can read the transcripts that were kindly posted but it doesn’t have the same effect until you have a visual to put to the words. I was sad to hear him talk about being unable to go to the beach because he couldn’t play football so he just sat at home, it just seems that tennis gives Rafa so much but can also take alot away from him to but he accepts that, and the pain he must have been going through not only physically but emotionally in the last few months without letting anyone know is just heartbreaking. However with every cloud there’s a silver lining and I think this interview was the silver lining, he looks happy and sounds cautiously positive about the knees improving. I’d love to see him play Montreal but if he isn’t there cool a happy and healthy Rafa is far more important and I’m sure we all agree on that!

  9. Mona says:

anybody knows if Rafa will be playing in Montreal ??

    • miri says:

Nope. We are all waiting to see if there’s been any change in plans.

      • Mona says:

If Rafa wont play Montreal, will he move to number 3 ?? Then Murray probably take his place in number 2 spot ?? :( :( I’ll be very upset if that happens :(( :(( whoaaaaa

        • mary says:

It doesn’t matter what we think or feel. It’s his knees and his decision and he has do what is right for his future career in tennis. Hey I have booked and paying heaps of money to go to the AO and yet I have no guarantee that he will come. Thats life.

      • mary says:

Enjoy montreal miri. Take plenty of pics if you get the opp.

    • mary says:

miri has posted a statement that indicates that yes he will be playing montreal.

  10. nic says:

Wow thanks heaps to meriko and babi for the translation and video. This has just been so insightful to be able to hear exactly what rafa is saying and how he’s responding to their questions. Really well done interview by both rosana and the other guy, and rafa is just amazing – thoughtful, reflective, honest, open, genuine, charming, sweet. What a natural.

Such a difference to hear the words from him directly rather than a summary. Really seems like he is ready to come back, and not just saying it, but truly meaning it. This is really good to know. It’s quite sad to hear that he really was going through a lot mentally for that period, especially when he first went on his break, that he didn’t know what to do with himself, and he couldn’t think about it because he was thinking of how he was away from the tour. Poor dear.

Well, he’s such a strong character, and a fighter, like he said, he’s worked on his mental toughness since young. I think that’s amazing that he was so aware of that aspect from early days. So much foresight uncle toni and family had to prepare him for that, and not just the tennis. Can’t wait to see rafa back on court now. He’s going to love it so much, no matter how tough the road ahead. Bless him.
