“I am Rafa Nadal, and I am the worst actor in sports…”

Watching the bloopers, it just hits you big time how charming Rafa is compared to everyone else, men and women. Or is just because I am biased?
    Adore the frustrated “nooo…!”

    • nic says:

Hell yea I LOVE the “noooo!” as well. I burst out laughing when I saw that bit. Yes, Rafa’s just so adorable and charming indeed. The way he reacted at the end was just cute as heck. That smile. I wish everyone in the world knew what a charmer this boy is.

    • Delta says:

Right back @ ya, & nooo your not biased, that’s just the “humble Rafa we love to watch!”
So cute when he’s making commercial & has to seem annoyed; that was acting as he doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in his makeup; unless he’s hitting “killer forehand, backhand or aces” (which he was improving on, before being sidelined.) So sweet, he apologizes for his “V”, cannot act that…….
As genuine as one could be: )

  2. nic says:

Hahahaha that’s hilarious at the end when Rafa rejoices that he got it right. Ah too cute. This whole blooper real is so funny. I like Andy’s “so what are you wearing” haha.

  3. Ally says:

Aww, I miss the bus. And Rafa on the bus. Didn’t realize I’d grown so attached to it… (…the bus, that is. I fully comprehend my multifaceted attachment to Rafa.)

  4. An says:

    So cute!!
But was’nt this a case of too big trousers Rafa? :P

  5. Atch2 says:

As Rafa’s English improves every yr, so does his acting. And he doesn’t mind appearing in a humouros ad or being part of the joke. He is just adorable and funny in all the ads especially the 2 with McEnroe. Mac luvs Rafa and it’s great they carpooled.

    • Delta says:

That he does, it’s obvious when he commentates how “in awe” he is by Rafa! Lefty2lefty. Cute as cute can be!

Did anyone else notice that there were more clips of Rafa than anyone else in the blooper video? I remember when this came out two years ago and the commentators in Montreal were discussing it and laughing so hard at everyone’s antics. They especially seemed to get a kick out of Rafi. I also remember that was the tourney where he was playing singles and dubs (playing doubles with Lleyton Hewitt) and they’d both had really long, tough matches and were sitting in the locker room with ice on various parts of their bodies and Rafa looked at Lleyton and said, “I’ll play if you play,” and Lleyton said, “I’ll play if you want to play.” Evidently the trainers had to get involved and tell them that they were nuts to continue on with dubs when they’d both had such tough singles matches. They finally relented and pulled out of the doubles. The commentators got quite a kick out of that as well as the fact that Rafa evidently said that he loved playing dubs with Lleyton but couldn’t understand a word he said! (Aussie accent and expressions…) Our funny guy!!!!!

Oh, also I forgot to point out one more thing…Notice at the end when the words go up on the screen (quoting Rafa) “The US Open Series. The GREATSET roadtrip in sports” and then it changes to “The GREATEST roadtrip in sports”. Charm personified and recognized!!!

      • Diane says:

He also calls it the “US Open Serious.” I think they let it go, as it was close enough. Too adorable.

  7. Atch2 says:

Sorry what is McEnroe saying when he is pumping weights?

    • Atch2 says:

I’ve listened to it again and again. Does Mac say “its’s all abt the burn?” What does that mean?

  8. Emily says:

I think he might be saying “bird” and a “bird” is the same as a girl…

  9. MamaG says:

Are they even doing the “road trip” spots this year? I’ve seen some promos but they seem to be going in a different direction with the marketing.

As for the Johnny Mac spots, that was supposed to be Gimelstob I think and then he shot off his mouth so they changed it at the last minute….I could be wrong but that’s what I’m remembering.

  10. sia says:

In ‘more rediculous’ , where Johnny Mac is saying “it’s all about the burn”, which means you keep working the muscles until they start to burn, he seems to be giving Rafa some pretty lascivious looks … not that I would blame him. I wouldn’t mind being on a bus with JM and RN.

  11. Atch2 says:

Johnny Mac and Rafa played doubles at the US Open 05 during Arthur Ashe Day, and they’re adorable as twins:

    • Suzanne says:

Soooo cute! I’ve always loved Johnny Mac as a commentator (he was a little difficult to watch as a player with his firey attitude and unconventionally stiff style) but in the last few years I’ve enjoyed him even more. He is so delighted with some of the players and their games, Rafa more than most, and has such fun laughing at himself in such a self-depricating way…Rafa genuinely seems to like Mac and even used him as a practice partner at Wimbledon last year (Mac was stoked for the “honor” as he put it). I think that the direction for the US Open “Serious” commercials is different than the road trip ones that were so fun. Now it looks like they are showing snippets of players and what they “love” about the Open series. So far not as much fun, but we’ll hold out until we see more, especially of what they have of our boy.

  12. faecoleman says:

Hey this is absolutely hilarious, and its nice to see Safin in there too, I bet they all had a ball, its nice that they show lots of Rafa clips! hee hee, and the last bit with Rafa is gorgeous, so much charm, really funny!!!!!

  13. mary says:

Ok I admit it Rafa can’t act to save his life. But brother don’t you feel all warm and fuzzy(you know what I mean) when you see him up close and akward. John Mc really cracks me up in this vd.

  14. Delta says:

Ya, he’s sooo natural “being himself”, but so cute when he tries hard, still comes off adorable! Yes, that warm & fuzzy feeling? Have it everytime I see him, on tele “live” or taped. Comes with territory, ie; look @ what wer’e witnessing, besides awesome talent. PURE CUTENESS: ) In every sense of the word……..

  15. Suzanne says:

I just saw Rafa’s new US Open Series commercial spot. I can’t find it anywhere on the web yet (even on the Olympus site), but keep your eyes peeled for it! They showed it during the Dancevic/Tursunov match in Indianapolis. (I had it on my DVR, hoping to scan the matches I care little about in order to see if they had any Rafa news…cha ching!) He’s holding a fishing pole and catching a tennis ball talking about how he loves fishing and tennis too, loves any competition. He feels like he’s a lucky guy for being able to have his work be a hobby which he loves so much. He loves fishing but he prefers to play tennis. He is sweet and cheeky at once and just so yummmmmmmmy! I hope you all get to see it and that soon it will be postable (is that a word?).

  16. miri says:

GO TO TENNIS has some of the original Gimmelslob videos up. They are worth a look even if you hate Gimmelslob – he’s essentially the butt of the joke in all of them. Oh, and I love Rafa’s head popping out of the bus door in that last one.

    • johanne says:

OMG! I had to watch the last video twice before I noticed Rafa’s head popping out. I LOVE IT! Roddick’s face is funny too. :D

      • Suzanne says:

You know it’s funny, but I kinda love/hate Gimmo. He’s a terrible commentator and goofball, but he has his moments of appreciating our Rafi. Miri, those clips on Go TO Tenns were hilarious…thanks for the link! Has anyone else seen Rafi’s US Open Serious commercial for this year yet? It’s (of course) very cute.

    • Atch2 says:

These ads are great! Luved the last one where Gimmelstob’s ‘friends’ ditched him. Great teamwork guys. They should have run this one.

And Rafa and Mac’s ads were funnier, so good choice USTA.

  17. Diane says:

I got a kick out of all of them, but mostly from Serena putting the slob in the luggage bin, and the one with all of them ditching him. Hilarious!
