Cahill on the knee tendinitis

Anyone watching ESPN’s coverage of Wimbledon today knows that commentator Darren Cahill spent a good amount of time talking about Rafa’s knee injury. Turns out, Cahill suffered from the same problem when he was playing. He made it clear he was speaking about his experience, but went on to talk about why his experience had him concerned for Rafa. Freakyfrites has posted a helpful summary of the comments.

I wish I hadn’t read it, now I feel anxious again.

I did appreciate the item here and on the other blog. I commented there and here in another item that I appreciated Darren Cahill’s comments, scary as they are. But he kind of backed up what Rafa said about the mental strain of dealing with injury. Many journalists and commentators seem to take what Rafa said lightly or even suggested at some level that he was trying to cover up his loss at RG.

I have no doobts that Rafa’s knees hurt like hell and that this is a serious problem. I just hope he can deal with it in a different way than this Cahill could.
To become a pill popper would never be great, so I hope Rafa can stay away from that as much as possible!

    Ugh, I don’t like it.

Yes it is scary isn’t it. My brother in law is a tennis instructor and he said that a man from his club who has alot of connections in the tennis world told him that Rafa could retire, and that his injury could be serious!! My brother in law is a Fed fan and I didn’t take so seriously until I read this! This is the worst thing ever, on a positive side though, I like that he says that Rafa is the strongest and fittest on tour and if anyone can come back stronger its Rafael Nadal. Well I hope so, I couldn’t bare tennis without Rafa, its bad enough already, and at just 23, he is in his prime now, this is scary stuff, what a contrast to last year. Oh dear Rafa, wish you all the best, we are praying for you!!!
