    Rafa:
At the end you have to think about your health and what you can’t (shouldn’t?) do it’s to be at your (health?) limit. But my intention is to play and to have the pertinent recovery and trust that in two weeks I’ll be ready.

The rest just the same info we’ve been reading over and over…

    • miri says:

He’s speaking Mallorquí there, right? I love how it sounds like the love child of Castilian and Italian.

      • Maru says:

He is, I can understand a few of it cause most of the words sound like the spanish equivalent but I definitevely need to read the translation that it’s provided :)
I love hearing him in spanish because you get the “real” Rafa and I love to hear him in english because I love to pick the spanish thinking on his english.

        • killian says:

Yes, so how come people are not amazed at HIS linguistic skills? Spanish, Mallorqi’, English, a bit of French, that Fabulous Smile–I’m thinkin’ Rafa is perfectly understandable in many ways!!!:D

Maru–my favorite “Rafaism” from Spanish to English is “illusions” for “dreams”–He always has had “big illusions” to win at the various stages of his amazing success (AO, Wimbly,1st RG)–it is so cute!

          VAMOS towards excellent health!

          • loverafa4ever says:

He speaks little Italian too. :D

          • Maru says:

so you can’t use illusions in that case?? =$
            lol
In spanish “ilusión” is an image but also can mean an idea (something that is hoped for) that would give you pleasure to obtain or reach.
it’s that english is like a complete different pattern of thinking and turning you spanish brain off is not that easy =P
Just like the no? that everyone and their mother make fun of, it’s just our way of say: don’t you? do you? is it? isn’t it? when finishing a sentence.

            • miri says:

Nope. It’s a misleading image presented to the vision; something that deceives or misleads intellectually

And yes, the patterns in languages interest me a lot. Like…why do you “take a photograph” in English? I’m not “taking” something from someone or something. The German “make a photograph” seems more sensible to me.

              • Maru says:

Thanks Miri! I had been so crazy busy I hadn’t had time to reply.

When it comes to languages, trying to make sense doesn’t really work I guess, you just need to try your best to turn your original language off while trying to express yourself on a different one.

It’s always fun to see how well you can do it and to pick on others (in this case Rafa) their improvement and how they express themselves.

            • johanne says:

Personally, I love how Rafa speaks English. It’s endearing and it’s hot, no? ;)

  2. johanne says:

Hats off to Xisca – looks like Rafa is basking in the afterglow. He looks amazingly “refreshed” here. ;)

    • Debbie says:

He does look a bit better. More like his old self. Thing is I don’t picture him and Xisca doing more than sharing the same spoon eating an ice cream sunday. :)

    • nic says:

i know, rafa is looking so nice and sunny here. gotta be all that time off doing good for his soul. aaww how laidback and relaxed and colm does rafa look. mmmmm…..

    • natch says:

      You’re welcome. ;)

  3. elmerforest says:

Is it just me, or does it never get old watching that Wimbledon ’08 championship point? Love to see him overcome injury and repeat that this year, but also want to see him around for many more years to come, so take it easy Rafa, and get back on court when there are no more doobts about the kneeas.

    • Josh says:

      Want good Wimbledon vibes for 2008? Watch this;

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYgsxne-L1w&feature=related

Most epic video ever; made by the BBC. Just sends shivers down my spine, ever time!

    • nic says:

totally, every time i see match point and rafa fall on his back, shivers up me spine. i was so glowing the day after that match. it was lovely. i couldn’t wipe the smile off my face at work for a whole day eventhough i had only an hour’s worth of sleep! and to hear this again, the crowd erupts in cheers as he falls to the ground. awesome. ah, wish rafa could get another shot at that experience again. get will our champ!!!

      • nic says:

oops, i meant get ‘well’ dear rafa :)

      • loverafa4ever says:

So true… Every time I watch it, I feel like I am watching it live. And I get nervous and excited the same way I did when I saw the final live. I was screaming and shouting. Phew! Amazing final! But I dont wanna see this kind of final this year. Thats probably not going to be gud for Rafa’s knee. (I am sure if he plays this time he will make it to the finals, as he said he will play only if he feels 100%)

    • johanne says:

It NEVER gets old!! The 2008 Wimbledon final was so unbelievably stressful, I can’t even begin to explain what I felt when Rafa finally won. It was just an amazing match to experience live. I have no doopts that Rafa will continue to be a part of those wonderfully memorable matches. VAMOS RAFA!!!

  4. Josh says:

That dude’s got some serious Dreadlocks!

Never seen a Spanish Rasta…or someone with dreadlocks in spain.

Although, saying that, why wouldn’t people their have dreadlocks?

    Silly me.

  5. faecoleman says:

Υεαh that was the best moment ever, Wimby last year after Queens, so many emotions in that final and how Rafa overcame them, really shows depth in his character more than any tennis player I know or have ever known, amazing Rafa, come back healthy , tennis needs you I cannot imagine it tennis without you, Roger dominance again, oh, I couldn’t think of anything worse and boring.

  6. aRafaelite says:

I had the Wimbledon 2008 match on my digital TV receiver thingy and was planning to never delete it… which was fine until the hard drive failed and I lost everything. So I bought the DVD (you can buy it via the Wimbly website & Amazon, etc). It was without doubt the greatest tennis match ever played, between two of the greatest players ever to wield a racket, and it was Rafa (not Roger!) that won. Ditto Rafa v. “Becky” and Roger in the AO, and the SF match against Nole in Madrid – three unbelievable matches and Rafa won them all. Something for us to hold on to when news of the knees or unexpected losses has us down!!!

    • elmerforest says:

Yep, I have the Rafa Trilogy too on DVD – Wimbly 08, AO semi final + final…not even George Lucas could put together action that awesome!

    • nic says:

man, i just bought a dvr so i could record rafa’s RG matches, but that was not meant to be. hoping i can put it to use for wimbledon. can’t wait to fill that hard drive with nothing but rafa :)

  7. Atch2 says:

I think we all need some cheering up.
Here’s The Ultimate Smile to put a smile on everyone’s face:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK4cEPsDik0&feature=related

& agree, the Wimby 2008 Final was Beautiful.

  8. June says:

That was wonderful and made my day! When I saw the RG final on Sunday, they showed clips from last year’s Wimby final (the highlights) which were great & fortunately we got to TIVO this. My daughter has the DVD we ordered for her birthday, but I never got to watch the entire match.

  9. alik says:

hello everyone! i have been lurking here for awhile and i decided to post today since you guys were talking about the wimby 08 final.
i was feeling really sad after Rafa’s lost the other day and i went back and watched the point against Novak in MC,the points against Stan in Miami, and several others.
reviewing those old highlights brought a smile to my face and made me feel a lot better.
Rafa is very special and i hope that he will be around a long time.

  10. natch says:

Hmmm…I wonder what he was carrying in that bag? I’ll bet it was:
    sunblock
copy of latest ATP rankings (explains his basking in the glow..of being #1)
nipple clamps (you never know when you’ll need them, right Rafa?)
ziploc bag of chocolate chip cookies Mama Nadal made
kneepads (see “nipple clamps” explanation above)
bottle of whatever perfume that is he wears
    clean undies
    restraining order against natch

    Any other ideas?

On a slightly unrelated topic, Fed sure is making out with that trophy, isn’t he? I was kinda creeped out.

    • Josh says:

Fed was holding that trophy all wrong; SIDEWAYS?! Its meant to be bitten fool!

Natch, for some reason when I first glanced at your list; I thought I saw Crack. It wasn’t there, but hey maybe it could be some crazy new treatment to help the knees.

      • jimmy says:

I though that was weird too. i thought a trophy is meant to be held vertically from the bottom. What was Fed thinking?

      • natch says:

        Josh & Jimmy,
Def the sideways thing was so wrong.

Haven’t heard of crack therapy for knees, but *shrugs* , if it gets us Rafa on Centre Court, I’ll take it.

    • CC says:

      Mmmm…the perfume.

So, was at the airport at five this morning and thought I’d check out the duty free. Saw what I think must be Rafa’s new fragrance (Lanvin l’homme Sport in the blue bottle, right?) and thought “what the heck, I’ll spray some on”. Very nice too, very citrusy and fresh. Then spent my whole flight sniffing my wrist and thinking “this is what Rafa smells like, this is what Rafa smells like…mmm…”
      *swoons*

      • johanne says:

That’s a great idea! I’d love to be able to smell the real thing, tho. Lucky Xisca.

        • CC says:

Yeah, I don’t know why I’m so hung up on what that man smells like… Possibly because he looks like he always smells divine, sweaty on court or freshly showered off court.

He might not like his new fragrance himself, so maybe he doesn’t wear it. But I’ll pretend… ;)

          • johanne says:

Yeah I guarantee he’s one of those guys who always smells good. Whether he’s dirty & sweaty or so fresh & so clean. Doesn’t matter. I want his natural Rafragrance bottled. Get on it, Lanvin. GET. ON. IT.

            • natch says:

OMG, Johanne! Your post didn’t appear before I wrote mine. How funny. You psychic chiquita, you.

And yes, Lanvin, get it on. I mean, get on it, lanvin. And let’s get it on, Rafa.

              • johanne says:

hahaha…you, me & CC have been obsessed with smelling Rafa for some time now. I’m just happy one of us has had the honor, you lucky bitch, you. ;)

                • natch says:

I’ll quote Mae West (you’ll probably have to look up who she was *sighs*), “Luck has nothin’ to do with it.”

          • natch says:

I got close enough to smell him last year at the USO. I know! I hear all of you. WHY didn’t I grab him and molest him then? Wellllll…I was with a disabled person, and I didn’t want to get her thrown out of the players’ lounge. But if she wasn’t there…Rafa would be *tied up* for almost a year now.
He was just out of the showers, so he smelled nice and clean. I know! No perfume, though.

            • johanne says:

I want to work for you, natch. We’d probably get arrested. Could be fun though! ;)

              • natch says:

                Jo,
You’re hired. I’ll need your house as a safe house to stash Rafa in. I’ll def get him this year. The FBI already has it in for me, what with all the international restraining orders Rafa has against me. So I could use you. And you could use Rafa. ;)

                • johanne says:

“If you have paper, I can sign”… as Rafa says.

Ohhhh man…Wimby will blow without him. *sobs*

            • CC says:

OMG, natch. You must have been SO close to him though. I want more details!!!

“He was just out of the showers, so he smelled nice and clean. I know! No perfume, though.”

Perfect, that’s just perfect and just how I’d like him. Natch, you lucky… ;)

              • natch says:

You bet I was close. I see Rafa across a crowded room…I am right next to him in no time!

I think I’ve told this story before, but maybe it wasn’t here. It wasn’t that big of a deal, though. I’m at the USO every year with this friend. We’ve been in the lounge before, so many people in there know us. He just happened to walk in with a group and sit down. I’m not sure if it was before or after a match or practice, but he had definitely just taken a shower. I was on Rafalert so I knew the very second he entered the area. I sauntered over and walked right behind him so I could inhale deeply. I hesitated for a moment, debating on whether I could lean over and lick his neck and face, and bite his ear, without getting my poor friend banned for life. Then they all said hello to me, so the jig was up, I guess. I mean, now they could pick me out of a line-up, right?

                • CC says:

                  Oh. My. God.

Not. That. Big. Of. A. Deal?!?!?!

In my imagination I would so have walked up to him, grabbed his freshly showered hair and…kissed him.

In real life, I would not. Obviously.

They were probably talking about football, natch, so he wouldn’t have noticed if you bit his ear…

                  • natch says:

Oh, CC…in my imagination, I f^cked him right there on the chaise! ;)

I think they were talking about futbol, and then suddenly the topic changed to restraining orders…

                  • natch says:

“Not. That. Big. Of. A. Deal?!?!?!”
What I meant was, it would have been a big deal if Rafa patted his lap to offer me a seat. I could have taken it from there. That definitely would have been a big deal. ;)

  11. Esmmée says:

my guess is, i want to hold it in a way noone else ever did, he did his photos at the Arc de Triomphe and not at the tour eiffel
