How sad that I understand Uncle Toni’s German the best? All those years of college wasted and the knowledge forgotten…

HOw sad, indeed! 4 years of German, a lifetime in a German family, and time spent living in Germany, and it all sounds familiar and comfortable. But I only about every 5th word.
And it doesn’t matter. I’d watch Rafa read a phone book.:)

Nothing really new, actually. Nice to hear Roger say that Rafa reacted great when he burst into tears in Australia. On the other hand he says that he feels some of the players give Rafa a little too much room for his routine when he’s serving.

I didnt like what Roger said about other players allowing Rafa to go on with his routine. I dont think any player shud have a problem if Rafa does everything within the time limit. I wanted to see that interview of Rafa which he has given in English.

I’m with you on that. Sometimes I wonder why people bother so much. You could easily be extracted by other things as well. I would hate to play against Sharapova for instance, because of the way she’s screaming, but that would be my own problem, not hers.

To be fair, Rafa often exceeds the time limit and isn’t called on it.

Yeah, I know, but biased as I am, I’d like to ignore that…

          Same here… :)…

But I think Rafa can try in one of the not so important matches (which are non according to him) and see how it goes without any of his usual routines. If the first match goes well he can try it on the second and so on… but I dont want him to change the way he arranges his bottles… I luv to see his concern when somebody touches his bottles or if it gets misplaced. Its like ” No no… dont touch my bottles.. dont ever touch my bottles”… :D

          dutchgirl – I hear ya. :)

It’s amazing to watch really old matches – like the 2004 Davis Cup match against Roddick. Rafa just steps up and serves with minimal ritual. It was throwing me off!

          • tiemyshoe says:

Ha, I know! He used to just step up, bounce twice, stick out his tongue, and serve … softly. His serve back then used to make this *pong* sound, not a *thwack*.

Then again, around 05-06, I think he had more tics than he does now – slowly straightening the socks, for instance. I’m so glad he dropped that. Nowadays, I wish he’d bounce the ball less. Or bounce more quickly. And towel faster. Either way, his matches with Djokovic always tend toward the “epic” because both of them take like 25-30 seconds to serve.

The water bottles need to stay though, and the way he avoids stepping on the lines even while mid-vamosing. Those things are so Rafa to me.

            • miri says:

Oh god – remember when he would sometimes bounce himself along with the ball? I don’t know how to describe it, but every now and then, when he’d bounce the ball, he’s flex his knees so that it looked like he was bouncing along with the ball. I’m so glad he stopped that – it just looked goofy. Moya did/does the same thing some times.

Nice vid. but I didn’t like the silly comment Federer said.

  5. sia says:

I didn’t think Fed’s comment was silly, just as usual self-serving. Maybe other players don’t want to play at lightening speed getting it over with ASAP. As tennis fans we like our matches slow, steamy and to be won by a certain Spaniard.

I luvd wat u said… especially the last line (words dat came after the comma)… :)

Awh Feds always complaining about Rafa’s serve times he did this just before the Wimbledon Final last year in a presser and guess what Rafa got a time violation warning at a crucial time in the match. I know rules are rules and Djokovic too is guilty of this, Rafa is not a natural left hander and this has and will probably always make his serve his least natural shot! its something he continuously has to work hard at and Feds no fool, he knows this! I don’t know if anyone recalls on here but last year in the davis cup tie v. USA played in the bull ring in Madrid, Rafa did just that, he was trying to speed up his serve and from what I saw was unsuccessful doing so, Federer by comparison has one of the best placed serves in the game and when on is one of his greatest weapons, I really think that this is bad sportsmanship on his behalf, finding ways in which he can disturb Rafa’s game, from the vid I presume this was post Australia, figures!

    Strange, I didn’t see any subtitles :(
Btw wasn’t that hilarious at the end when Rafa’s wiping the seat of the golf cart, and then refuses to sit on it, so climbs up the top and starts to sit on the backrest. hehe, so cute.

This vid is so nicely put-together, but did they need to bring up the doping rumors? Unnecessary. Although it did make me realize that Rafa really has the exact same body his uncle Miguel Angel has.
