Warm up with Rafa

Posted by Nereis8

CC pointed this out to me much earlier today – sorry I’m behind in posting, I’ve been working 12+ hour days since last Friday and am more than a little bit frazzled.

I know it’s only warm up stuff, but it gave me enough fuel for a bunch of *ahem* less than wholesome thoughts. Oh mama.

Sorry to hear about your work craziness – 12-hr. days = :(

What a fun clip … I like his studied care to avoid looking at the camera directly, and the aerobics-workout dance music. I wish this DVD were available somewhere – it’s fascinating to see how Rafa works it out.

I thoroughly enjoyed that stretch at 1:34. ;)

Is it just me, or is the guy just standing there watching kind of creepy? I mean, I know he’s a trainer who’s just making sure Rafa’s being a good boy and doing the exercises properly, but there’s something about the way it’s staged that makes him look creepy.

Given the gloves and the “handles” on the ground…I’m just sad that we might have missed some opportunities to see push-ups. Of course, shirtless push-ups would have been even better.

I know, that trainer dude is leery just standing there and STARING. But yeah, I covet this DVD just for these extras. I want to see him do those crazy unstable-plane skateboard whatever exercises I read about! (Although I suspect some aspects of Rafa’s training might be guarded state secrets, or close to it.)

Something else I haven’t seen before, Rafa jumping around in the locker room at RG 08: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqD1yXceAcg

      Not naked though. :(

I swear, I can’t figure out why another player hasn’t killed him in the locker room. I’d sneak in a tranquilizer dart if I knew I was going to be stuck in there with him for a time. I remember one vid I saw on YouTube ages ago (and can’t find now) where he was jumping on and off a bench while some poor sod was sitting on the far end just trying to get his damn tennis shoes on. The bench wasn’t the sturdiest of things and the poor guy was being bounced around. I wondered if they were about to play each other and that’s why he was refusing to give up and go to another bench – locker room mind games or something.

        • tiemyshoe says:

Ha, tranquilizer dart. I warrant it’d take a few shots to bring him down. The camera angle on that vid also makes him look like a big green hopping giant confined to a too-small space.

miri, I didn’t even see that guy before, honest. Just saw Aerobic Rafa. But there has to be a continuation of that video somewhere.

      Must. Find. Shirtless. Push-ups.

That stretch at 1:34 is….. *goes incoherent*

  6. strobi says:

lovely gothic church in the background, must be in Manacor, at the rooftop of his apartment building.

  7. niki says:

Trainer guy is creepy, no doubt, but trainer guy’s hair…there are no words.

Also, I know Rafa is an elite athlete and all, but I’m seriously impressed with his jump rope skills. Then again, maybe that’s just because I can’t jump rope to save my life.

Sucks about your work week, Miri. Hope it settles down soon :)

  8. CC says:

Those legs are just to die for… The stretch at 1:34 is…yes!!!
Can’t believe they didn’t show us MORE!!!

  9. CC says:

BTW Miri, work just sucks at the mo, TOO MUCH TO DO! Which means too little time for Rafa day dreaming… ):
So I fully sympathise with you and hope it gets better soon. Thank you for still finding time to post some great stuff.

  10. johanne says:

Yes miri, many many thanks for having such a great site! Hope work starts to calm down very soon so you’re able to watch Rafa play. :)

thanks so much miri for still finding a time to post all these wonderful things. This site is such a blessing for all of us.

This is the first time commenting on this blog. But OMG – Rafa and I have the same stretching routine! At least the first part, with the knee & hip rolls, shoulder touches, etc. I learned it from my Chinese qi gong teacher, which makes me wonder – does Rafa do qi gong or martial arts? Maybe these stretches are more universal than I realized, and not specific to the martial arts. But it was really weird for me to see him doing it!

Thanx miri for posting this, with your busy schedule an all, I totally agree, that guy gives me the shivers brrrrr! It would be really nice to see the rest of that clip, watch those biceps/triceps in action, but his legs are just fantastic aren’t they? I love the way he avoids looking at the camera so funny lol.. That clip @ the french in the locker room I have seen before, and @ Wimbledon last year he was bouncing up and done like he had springs under his shoes while Fed just stood there all calm, just love Rafa! Its not mind games I feel, I just think he does this to combat his nerves. I myself love to go for a fast run when I am stressed out it really works for me. Like his little sprints to the service line at the beginning of a match, you only see Rafa doing this, and jumping up and down waiting for the results of the toss etc. Pure Nervous Energy..Pure Rafa…

  14. riqoueiardo says:

Rafael is blessed to play as successful at his age. He is I believe the most intrstg to watch with the keeping up with the ball each moment. He will improve as the years roll on. Great stuff

  15. nic says:

Omg that’s too much Rafa goodness packed into one clip I could just die now. Watching Rafa use the skip rope is heavenly. Just look how fluid his movement is. And so light on his feet. Bestill my heart. How gorgeous does he look in this?????!!!! Other guys might look sloppy like that, but Rafa’s just so perfect that even in a not-so-neat state he’s hot. Or maybe especially in that state! And that backdrop is just beautiful – what a great juxtaposition with Rafa’s earthiness. Man, if that’s his balcony in Mallorca, wouldn’t I love to be there.

    • CC says:

Ah…I just HAD to watch that again. And comment.
He’s so gorgeous. Just something about the way he looks so calm and confident and at ease with what he does here.

And oh, how I’d love to skip rope with Rafa…

    Unbelivable RAFA ..

He’s so cute jumping in both clips :)
