Nadal and Tsonga to headline PTT Thailand Open 2009

President of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand, Mr. Suwat Lipatapanlop applauded PTT’s decision and added that getting Nadal to compete was a great boost for the event. “Rafael Nadal’s participation in the tournament is a major accomplishment,” said Khun Suwat. “The world’s most exciting player will be making his first appearance at the event and we are all excited to see him play. He is the French, Wimbledon and Australian Open champion and his participation will bring huge international exposure to the tournament, highlighting Thailand’s global image and help draw more international visitors to the country,” he added.

Nadal is also excited about his first visit to the event. “I am very pleased to finally be able to come and compete at the PTT Thailand Open,” said the world #1. “I look forward to playing some great tennis for all the Thai fans.”

Yeah, I read that this morning, its a small event so Rafa being Rafa must be going because he’s been asked to by the organizers, he’s such an obliging fellow isn’t he? Its odd though, isn’t this a tournament between Davis cup and the Us open? Still something was said that his appearance would do well to boost audiences thus helping the economy so this is kinda nice I think from Rafa, what else could we expect?

I think it goes USO, DC, a week off and then this – followed immediately by the China Open and then Shanghai Masters. Thailand-Shanghai means three consecutive weeks on hard courts.

I guess he’s doing it because he’s already headed to Asia? I honestly don’t really know why he’s playing this thing. KNEES, Rafa. Don’t abuse ’em.
