Murray and Tsonga… mmmmm, Seppi or querry are tricky customers for a 1st round accounter too, altogether not the easiest draw but what is nowadays, the strength in the game seems to be improving all the time, I’ve yet to see tsonga on clay so that should be interesting, Murray is well rested, so will pose the greatest threat to Rafa I believe, unless Verdasco likes the surface better here than Barcelona, we’ll see, Good Luck Rafa. anyway.

I think Rafa has a great chance of winning Rome. I mean people will be thinking the blisters might return as he has been playing non-stop since his first match in Monte Carlo.

But I think Rafa has played more intelligently this year. His matches have no doubt been shorther in both MC and Barcelonam, than they were in 2008. Plus he didn’t play doubles in Monte Carlo, which he managed to win in ’08, t was almost like playing 2 tournaments in 1 week.

So this year there has been less court time and more luck, in the sense that he didn’t have to play Nalbandian, which I thought would be a long and arduous match.

So yeah, good chance in Rome, I am hoping at least.

Good points, Josh! I think he’ll be fresh and motivated to take back that trophy. It’ll be tough, but he’s playing himself into form. May Djokovic’s foul record of defending titles continue unabated…

I’m super-curious to see what happens on Fed’s side of the draw. It seems premature to count him out, but he’s gone out early in Rome a few times. Not that his draw’s very hard, but I could see a sleeper taking him out in the early rounds again.
