Another day on clay gives Rafa another chance to improve his already unbelievable stats. His opponent today was #61 Christophe Rochus of Belguim. Rafa dominated the wee (well, for a professional tennis player) Rochus in their only previous meeting at this year’s Australian Open. Today continued the trend as Rafa was serving at 78%, converted 71% of his break chances, and didn’t face a single break point in an match that lasted just under an hour. Match score: 6-2 6-0. Rafa was scheduled to meet Nalbandian in the quarters, but Nalby has pulled out of the tournament with an injury.

Thats a relief, but I would have liked Rafa to beat Nalby on clay, since they’ve yet to play each other on this surface, but after Indian wells, yeah I bet Nadals relieved as well, he gets more needed rest although It would have been an important victory for him, it would have been energy consuming!!

Whoa that’s crazy about Nalby considering he won so quickly today! I bet Almagro is pissed, lol.

I agree, faecoleman – lucky for Rafa he gets some additional rest but it would have been a really interesting match, I’m sure. Oh well.

omg just like that rafa is through to the semis!! poor nalby. such a shame, woulda been a really interesting match-up. wonder what rafa feels about it. knowing his competitive spirit he probably will feel not as worthy of progressing to then next round. but surely he’s playing so well that he woulda made it anyway, so no need for him to feel sheepish about it at all! :D

omg i’m soooooo excited that he’s onto the semis already! almost there rafa, almost there!! enjoy the rest while you can get it. can’t wait for sat now.
