Ana tried her hand at golf ahead of the Sony Ericsson Open, which begins in Miami today. She joined men’s world No.1 Rafael Nadal in a fun photo call at Crandon Park Golf Course, just a stone’s throw from the tournament venue.

Ana has only once before played the full version of the sport – in Perth four years ago – but she proved to be a mean putter as she beat the Spaniard, who plays frequently to a low handicap, in an informal putting contest.

The 21-year-old, who enjoyed a a quick game of mini golf with her coaches during the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells last week, took the first putt from around 12 feet, after Nadal had read the green for her. Ana’s first putt came up agonisingly short, but she holed her second attempt from the same distance.

Nadal then attempted the same putt on the picturesque 11th green but failed to hole in three attempts. Ana, who is friends with the Spaniard, couldn’t resist gently mocking the six-time Grand Slam champion. “I win!” joked the 21-year-old, acknowledging her beginners’ luck.
