According to the International Herald Tribune, repairs are underway on the stadium at Benidorm and things are looking more positive for the tie between Span and Serbia to be played this weekend. Currently, the first match is scheduled to start Saturday at 10am local time (9am GMT; 4am EST).
Both team captains would also meet later Friday to work up a schedule for the coming days, which could include playing the doubles match immediately after both singles. The best-of-five series is usually played from Friday through Sunday but ITF rules say that play can be extended all the way to Tuesday.
Officials said at least 10 hours were needed to repair the worst damage with a 10 a.m. start time being set for Saturday’s opening singles match between third-ranked Novak Djokovic and Spain’s David Ferrer to kick off the World Group first round matchup.
